Ladies who Lunch

The January issue of L’Official features photographs from an exclusive lunch for Bluestar Diamonds and Forever Mark hosted by the impeccably groomed Anju Taraporevala. The very stylish socialite is usually seen at super-exclusive afternoon dos and has maintained a dignified silence about her break-up with ex-husband Dr Fahad Taraporevala.

The feature showcases details on the décor at the white theme afternoon, the menu and photographs of the guests who include Laila Lamba, Payal Asnani, Sherry Singh, Sunaina Vahi, Avanti Birla, Haseena Jethmalani, Zarina Mehta, Samantha Nayar and Lata Patel.

To the best of our knowledge Anju is hosting an event supported by a brand for the first time. In the last few years, several lifestyle, luxury and fashion brands have hired the services of fashionable socialites to host their special events- like champagne brunches or wine and cheese dos. The big advantage of this arrangement, the hostess gets her friend circle to the event, and the brands up their events glam-quotient thanks to the presence of the rich and glamorous women. The ladies who help brands with such ‘guest list’ exercises include the business savvy Chhaya Momaya, flamboyant interior designer Nisha Jamwal, former model turned choreographer Sharmilla Khanna and actor Chunkey Pandey’s wife Bhavna Pandey. Sources state these socialites charge between Rs one and five lakh for inviting their select friends (twenty to fifty in number) to such get-togethers. Each woman has a different forte. Momaya has the ability to invite South Mumbai industrialist wives. Nisha and Sharmilla are close to socialites and fashionistas while Bhavna Pandey is well-connected with Bandra’s super-rich and the B-town fraternity.

Imran Khan gets engaged

Actor Imran Khan got engaged to Avantika Malik at his family’s sprawling farm house in Karjat. Imran looked dapper in a black sherwani and ivory silk kurta designed by Varun Bahl and Karan Johar. Avantika chose an unusual velvet lehenga, in blue and gold. What was really disappointing was her unconventional choli—which did nothing to flatter her personality or figure. The bride’s mother also wore a velvet lehenga—we heard Varun Bahl designed the bride and her mother’s ensemble too. Imran’s uncle Aamir Khan, his wife Kiran Rao and other family members and close friends attended the engagement. Aamir’s ex-wife Reena Khan also made a rare appearance. So what do you think of Avantika’s ensemble?
