A Marwari couple on their wedding day in Rockwood Palace Resort & Spa, Udaipur

Sania Shoaib Walima in Lahore

For her Walima ceremony in Lahore, Sania was seen in yet another Shantanu-Nikhil lehenga, in what seems like a gorgeous powder blue shade. The lehenga however pales in comparison with her Sialkot reception ensemble! Shoaib, on the other hand, looked quite dapper. Gotta say they do look good together.

Sania and Shoaib’s Reception in Sialkot

Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik’s wedding reception in Sialkot, Pakistan on 25th April was a grand affair. And what can we say, we lurve Sania’s look. Everything felt just right – her makeup, jewellery, the studded clutch and the beautiful red embroidered lehenga designed by Shantanu and Nikhil.

Laila Khan weds Farhan Furniturewallah @ Taj Lands End, Mumbai

Laila Khan (actor Fardeen Khan’s sister) married Farhan Furniturewallah in a simple Nikaah ceremony on April 16th. Later, they hosted a grand reception at Taj Lands End which was attended by the who’s who from the Mumbai’s film industry.

This is the second marriage for both Laila and Farhan. Laila, an artist by profession was earlier married to Delhi based Rohit Rajpal while Farhan who runs his family’s furniture business was married to actress Pooja Bedi. Many friends of Laila from Delhi attended the wedding reception. What was also interesting is that Farhan’s first wife Pooja was there with her children and her father Kabir Bedi to wish the newly wedded couple. At the reception, the guests were welcomed by Fardeen Khan, uncle and aunty Sanjay and Zarina Khan, and cousins Sussane Khan Roshan, Farah Khan, Simone Khan Arora and Zayed Khan. The Bachchans were there with Amar Singh; they were one of the earlier guests and much after they left, actress Rekha came wearing her signature gold saree.

Laila Khan’s gold gown with lots of glitter was created by her designer mother Sundari Khan. She teamed it with a heavy diamond necklace by cousin sister Farah Khan. The groom’s clothes for all functions were created by Fardeen’s designer Shaahid Amir. For the reception, Shaahid designed for the groom a black suit and a black shirt in cashmere silk. Fardeen wore a grey silk suit with a white shirt and a grey silk tie.

Hrithik’s sister Sunaina Roshan weds Mohan Nadaar

Sunaina Roshan married businessman Mohan Nadaar at a simple at-home function attended by her and his parents and brother Hrithik and sister-in-law Suzanne.

Life has been tough for Sunaina in the last decade—a divorce, a broken engagement and her battle with cancer. Since her divorce in 2000 Sunaina lived with her parents at their palatial bunglow Palazzio in Juhu. She has a daughter from the first marriage who lives with her father Ashish Soni and his second wife Shonali Malhotra. After Sunaina’s reportedly recent secret marriage to Mohan, the Roshan’s were upset with Sunaina. But Sunaina was confident that the Roshan’s would accept Mohan soon. And that is what finally happened, so we’re really happy for Sunaina.

Mohan was earlier associated with Crescendo Music and he now runs a construction business in Mumbai. His first wife and son live in Canada. Sunaina and Mohan now live in Lokhandwala Complex. Our best wishes to the newly wed couple!

Sania Shoaib Wedding

Many of our readers wrote in asking if we are going to do a post on Sania’s wedding. She has been all over media for all kinds of reason, that we felt we would write once all the tamasha was over.  The tennis star and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik married in a private Nikaah ceremony in Hyderabad. Sania wore a red saree that her mother had worn 25 years ago for her own nikah. Shoaib wore a black sherwani which was made by Shantanu and Nikhil.

For the Sangeet, Sania chose a pink suit by Shantanu-Nikhil while Shoaib wore a white sherwani. For the grand reception, Sania wore a red-and-gold khara dupatta set against cream background – this outfit is traditionally worn by Hyderabadi Muslim brides. The groom’s cream sherwani was a perfect match to her bride’s glittering ensemble.

We wish the happy couple a beautiful life together.

Velvet Views

Admittedly, velvet is not our thing and the return of velvet last year did fill us up with dread but what can we do! Velvet is BACK! It was seen in all the fashion weeks and seems like it will be a strong trend for this Winter again. The soft and warm texture of the fabric is perfect for warm weather and its shown up in short dresses, gowns, sarees, blouses, lehengas and churidar kurtas.

A thing to remember – Velvet tends to be frumpy and unforgiving in looser form. They key is to wear it fitted or structured.

Among Indian designers, Manish Malhotra and Tarun Tahiliani seem to be leading the way. Bollywood men and women have been spotted sporting this trend. Even Harper Bazaar Editor Sujata Asoomull embraced the trend in a rich Velvet saree.

Jaya Rathore does vintage bridal

Jaya Rathore showcased her Autumn/Winter 2010 collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week recently with Neha Dhupia walking the ramp for her. The theme of Jaya’s collection was ‘Out from my grandmom’s treasury!’ – showcasing her penchant for exclusive antiques.

Here she experiments with medieval-age convent stitches that have been extensively used in appliqué, borders and laces which are then applied on the garment and the kundan jadau work.   The fabrics used are net, georgettes, silk, handloom, tussar and satin.

If you like what you see, Jaya retails from AZA (Mumbai & Delhi), Ensemble (Mumbai & Delhi), Ogaan (Delhi) and Elahe (Hyderabad).

Valaya’s Alika – Opulence and grandeur!

What can you expect from House of Valaya but sophisticated and regal ensembles and Alika didnt disappoint. This collection at the recently concluded Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week had sarees, tight fitting to layered to angarkha style kurtas, long extremely flayered net skirts paired with embroidered kurtas, coats and more infabrics such as jersey, dupion, georgette and fine velvets.  No over-the-top embroidery here – instead you see subtle use of techniques ranging from distressed foils, digital printing, appliqué, and laser cutting.

Go for Gold!

Shiny, yellow gold may be unfashionable in some circles, but the majority of Indian brides continue to go for gold. Well-known South Indian actress Rambha who got married at Tirumala in Tirupathi wore a white and gold saree and lots of gold jewellery. For the reception in Chennai she picked a gold saree accessorised with heavy, chunky gold jewellery. While we liked the traditional look, softer and more subtle makeup would have made her look much better. Rambha married Indiran, a Canada based businessman. Reception outfit was another over-the-top affair but gotta say the bride glowed with happiness.
