Shaadi specialists savor street food@ Anantara, Bangkok

Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, Bangkok is one of Bangkok’s most popular wedding venues, and many Indian families have been hosting their celebrations there- intimate ceremonies and big, elaborate weddings. Couples have exchanged vows on a covered bridge overlooking gardens in full bloom or shared their first dance against the majestic backdrop of the Chao Phraya River, and celebrated with family and friends aboard a sunset Manohra Cruise.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) invited some of India’s leading Wedding Planners, Destination Wedding specialists and WeddingSutra.com to visit select resorts and hotels in Koh Samui, Bangkok and Hua Hin. On this occasion Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, Bangkok hosted a special street food theme lunch. The guests from all over India- Delhi, Ludhiana, Chennai and Mumbai relished the delicacies from different places- Idlis & crisp masala dosa, Mumbai’s favorite snacks- fluffy dhoklas, tangy bhel puri & pani puri & spicy pav bhaji, North India’s all-popular chole bhathure, tikki and chicken tikka rolls.

A Cross Cultural Wedding in Ireland

Abhi belongs to a Sri Lankan family while Conor is an Irish man. They met at their work place and after dating for three years, they decided to tie the knot in grand style. After their Sri Lankan Hindu wedding in Donegal, Ireland they hosted their Irish wedding in the beautiful surroundings of Lough Eske Castle, in Donegal. Their Irish Church wedding was held in the same Church were Conor’s parents were married and the same priest solemnized Abhi & Conor’s wedding too!

Says India/ UK based Nehal Deliwala who captured the three day celebrations: “Photographing the Church Wedding at the 100 year old Church was an unbelievably beautiful experience. The couple had lot of fun at their pre-wedding shoots, and we enjoyed the Irish and Sri Lankan hospitality.”

Adil, the son of Lubna and Irfan Allana who run Mumbai/ Dubai based foods giant Allanasons Limited is marrying Fatimah, the daughter of a Jordan-based billionnaire. All the functions we are informed take place at different spaces of the gorgeous Ciragan- the waterfront, the gardens and terraces.

East meets West in Pune

Lavin from Hong Kong & Roma from Canada tied the knot in Pune, where their extended families live. The wedding was an interesting blend of two cultures- Sikh & Sindhi. The functions at the grand, fun-filled celebration included the Engagement & Welcome Dinner, the Mehendi & Sangeet, the Pool Party and the Wedding & Reception. Roma is a Punjabi, brought up in Brampton, Canada, and she met Lavin in Hong Kong where she was studying for a degree in International Business. Lavin was brought up in Hong Kong and he later studied in Australia. Their civil wedding was held in Hong Kong after which the traditional festivities were in Pune.

The Themes

Engagement- Dreamy, with the crescent moon as centrestage decor. The lighting was done in shades of blue, heavenly white flowers were all over, the couple’s logo ‘LM’ being the highlight. The couple made a grand entry in a beautifully decorated carriage to a grand Disney musical. Roma wore an English pink feather gown, and Lavin wore a Tuxedo.

Sangeet- An ancient Moghul theme though the colors for the decor were Moroccan- turquoise, magenta and bright greens. The bride and groom sat on a royal peacock throne. There was a photo booth, so guests could take pictures which could be printed on the spot as a souvenir with the background picture and wedding date.

Wedding- A Gurudwara ambience was re-created in the ground floor of the hotel, with white and gold colors as the theme.

Reception- Beautiful frames were placed on all the walls, the theme being ‘Walk down memory lane’, with childhood photos of the bride and groom, and photographs of both families.

On the last day day of the celebration it was the bride’s heartfelt wish to arrange a sumptuous dinner for underprivileged orphan kids. So a group went to a home, to spend time with 300 kids, and arrange a fun party with lots of food.

Bride’s Diary
The most fun celebration was the pool party- it was a very relaxing afternoon much-needed after all the late night partying. Best of all, its the time when we can all be relaxed and dress as we’d like to.

Most of our guests were hugely impressed that I planned a long-distance wedding without the help of Wedding Planners. They also loved our pre-wedding video ‘Jab we Met’- it was shot over 3 days and the output, thanks to our extremely skilled and talented videographers was amazing.

Before I visited India, I did most of my research online- on websites like WeddingSutra. I made a note of as many details, so decision-making would be easier when I come here. The time spent researching earlier, really helped when I discussed ideas with vendors and designers. It also helped me figure out how much I should budget for what.

My experience with Neeta Lulla was great, but one other designer was disappointing, I received the outfit, much after the promised date, just before the wedding. My advice to brides- try to take an input from a Real Bride before you pay an advance.

Myrah Summer 2012

Beauty Expert Bhavna Kohli describes her experience at the royal Myrah Spa

Nestled in the suburbs of Juhu, Myrah Spa is a spa lover’s delight – as you enter the place you forget that you are in Mumbai. The Zen like interiors combined with the hospitable team instantly calm the nerves jangled by modern day lifestyle – even before you start your service. As part of its Summer Specials, Myrah has a bouquet of cooling Facials, Aloe & Fruit based Body Scrubs, Remineralizing Treatments and Rose based Envelopments created to refresh and re-energize your body.

A huge body polish fan, I opted for the Calming Rose body polish followed by the Cooling Rose envelopment. As my service began in one of the beautifully done up rooms, I instantly began to unwind. The calming rose body polish left my skin feeling extremely soft, dewy, supple and renewed. This was followed by a cooling rose envelopment which involved a rich cream being massaged with deeply relaxing moves, followed by a special spritz.

I left the spa with my skin soft, cool, refreshed and ultra-hydrated. Can’t wait to get back there again and feel like pampered royalty!

Sikh Wedding in Perth

Jugpreet and Gurpreet got married at the Sikh Temple in Perth on a lovely afternoon. It was a solemn wedding ceremony in the temple, and they had an English translation of the chants for their Aussie guests. Says Christine Lim who photographed the celebration: “It was my first time covering a traditional Sikh wedding and I enjoyed every bit of it, the cultural details were elaborate, especially with the pre-wedding ceremonies.” The wedding week started with the bathing ceremony. Then it was the henna and bangle ceremony, and the official wedding day at the Sikh Temple in Perth, which is home to a large Sikh population. Adds Christine: “The vibrancy and abundance in culture and family closeness, makes this Sikh wedding day such a joyous and meaningful day, an experience I would not hesitate to relive again.”

Big Bang Theory Star’s Wedding Pictures

Actor Kunal Nayyar got married to former Miss India Neha Kapur in Delhi. The festivities of the big, fat wedding took place over six days in December last year. The grandest function was the reception at Delhi Gymkhana with over 1,000 guests. We would have loved to feature these beautiful photographs earlier, but we couldn’t, so here they are.

Nayyar is famous for playing the role of an awkward astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali on the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Nayyar, 30, and Neha, 28, both from Delhi, met three years ago. Neha, a fashion design graduate won the Femina Miss India crown in 2006. Kunal moved to the US in 1999, to pursue his Bachelors at the University of Portland. After he participated in the American College Theater Festival and won its Mark Twain Prize for Comic Brilliance, he resolved to become a professional actor.
