Shreya says, “Most photographers are currently doing couple shoots in gardens or with architectural backgrounds. I wanted to try something conceptually different which was fun and yet we could squeeze in some memorable moments in the images. And Darshan and Priyanka were game for it right from the word go. It was so interactive and the pictures turned out genuinely memorable and candid.”

Immortalizing at Humayun Tomb
Photographs by Saneesh Sukumaran
Saneesh immortalized the romance of Shailvi and Govind at Humayun Tomb in Delhi. Decked up in their wedding dresses, they braved the December chill, says Saneesh, “One thing we were worried about was having too many people so we had to schedule the shooting early in the morning. Even though it was very cold, Shailvi and Govind were in high spirits and did an excellent job without freezing.”

Reviving 70’s
Photographs by Archana Kumar (Studio Velvetta)
Archana shot with Isha and Arun at Cubbon Park, Bangalore and also at a vintage location for the 70’s to come alive. Archana says, “Isha and Arun have been high school sweethearts and Cubbon Park was the place where they met for the first time when they were in school. So we scoped the park, went back to the place they had special memories of and captured them in their nostalgia. Since the theme of their cocktail party was 70s Bollywood, they wanted this shoot to mirror that. In fact, the blowups of the pictures from this shoot were showcased at the party. ” The shoot brought alive the dramatic flair of 70s and the couple enjoyed it to the hilt.

Goan Fun
Photographs by Edric George
Edric used the popular locations of Goa to make this shoot fun and romantic. He says, “Neel and Rochelle were game for a fun shoot and what a shoot it was. Being a Goan Photographer, I had a prior idea about the locations. So I scouted the perfect spots, the right time of the day to avoid crowd and shot in and around Aguada Fort as well as at Sinquerim Beach.”

The frenzy is doubled when it’s a Celebrity Wedding

When there’s a celebrity wedding, there’s another element that goes beyond watching the big day of the celebrity bride and groom. It’s seeing what gorgeous traditional ensembles which celebrity wore. At most celebrity weddings, press photographers are welcomed, but not given access to the inner spaces, so they photograph the bride & groom entering the venue, and other celebrity guests coming to wish the couple. WeddingSutra spoke to Bombay Times Photographer Prathamesh Bandekar on his experience with photographing so many celebrities at glitzy shaadis.

As the official photographer of Bombay Times, celebrity weddings are one of the events you photograph. What do you love most about them?

Weddings are such a joyous occasion and the frenzy is doubled when it’s a celebrity wedding. What I love most is the excitement to see my photos published the very next day. So many friends & colleagues ask me what the bride was wearing or who attended the wedding, and it’s a great feeling to answer all the questions through my photographs!

Anything you dislike about such assignments?
Is the incessant crowds that gather to spot their favourite celebrities, creating difficulties for us photographers to capture photos. With tremendous pressure on us to shoot something different, the palpable excitement among the crowd can be a major problem.

Tell us about your most memorable assignment.
Abhishek Bachchan-Aishwariya Rai’s wedding on 20th April 2007 was a huge media circus. We actually spotted celebrity look-alikes lurking in the crowds and creating a lot of confusion, as the crowds mistook them to be stars.

Tell us about one celebrity family who were most the most hospitable to media personnel too.
Feroz Khan took wonderful care of all the media at his son Fardeen Khan’s wedding to Natasha Madhavi at Grand Hyatt. He played the perfect host and treated the media (over fifty in number) like his special guests. It has been one of the few occasions, where we didn’t feel as if we were media personnel, but VIP guests. The area where we stood was done by tastefully, and we were served delicious food- traditional biryanis and kebabs and more multi-cuisine specialities.

A celebrity you look forward to photographing, always
Rekha, for her impeccable dress sense and her ability to look gorgeous in anything she wears! The most attractive quality about Rekha is that she looks divine even when she’s not posing for the camera. Her candid shots capture her real beauty and those photos are much better than the posed ones. Another celebrity I look forward to photographing is Mr Amitabh Bachchan. There is no single reason why. Big B is always punctual, looks very dapper usually in a black suit, and he is one of the humblest celebrities I have interacted with.

Have you considered Wedding Photography as a career?
Yes, of course. When I commenced my career, wedding photography was more about capturing lots of posed family and guest photographs and a few candid moments of the bride & groom. But everything has changed so much in the last few years. Now, young, to-be-weds love experimenting with photography. Wedding photography is a booming business and I would love to be a part of it, if not in the immediate future, definitely in a few years.

Indian Wedding in Mombasa

Four days of festivities, fun and non-stop partying. Ankeet and Nisha from London got married at Leisure Lodge, a beach & golf resort in Mombasa, Kenya. The venue was exotic and the couple chose Leisure Lodge because they wanted a beach destination wedding, and since they have family in Kenya, it was convenient for all. The experience was truly special for Magnus Bogucki, the photographer not only because it was his first Indian wedding but also because the couple were very sporty and adventurous. Says Magnus, who is based in Switzerland, and who the couple found through his facebook page. “It rained every single day. But just because there is no sun, doesn’t mean you can’t get good and fun photos. Ankeet and Nisha were not afraid of trying anything I suggested- running around, climbing trees or getting wet. In the end, we got some great photos and everyone had so much fun.”

Skin SOS

For skin that’s dulled with the patina of stressful daily urban living, a new offering from Kaya Skin Clinic called the Kaya Signature Face Therapy combines cosmetic dermatology treatments with spa treatments to elevate the treatment from beyond an ordinary facial to an intensive treatment that results in smoother, suppler and brighter skin.

The service, if you want to know what it comprises, has four different detailed service layers topped with the specially designed massage with essential oils. According to Dr. Sangeeta Amladi, Head Medical Services, Kaya Skin Clinic, “Everyone desires soft, supple and radiant skin and that too instantly. Increasingly, consumers are seeking a relaxing experience along with the beauty benefits that a skin care treatment has to offer. With Kaya Signature Face Therapy, we are offering our clients an advanced therapeutic treatment that not only gives instant skin care results but also appeal to all the senses.” Explaining the service Dr. Amladi says, “The four different layers of service experience bring together the best of technology for exfoliation and deep infusion of natural brightening ingredients. The last layer of a specially designed massage nourishes the skin with therapeutic properties of essential oils and also helps calm nerves and a busy mind.”

Ultra Rejuve
What are the three primary therapies under Signature Face Therapy? The first option is the Ultra Rejuve which is a pure mood elevating experience, this therapy brings the much needed freshness to the dull and tired skin. The four layered fusion face therapy begins with a light microdermabrasion, which lightly removes the surface dead skin to reveal the clear, fresh and healthy skin beneath. This is followed by topical application of Vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant, then followed by Licorice and Arbutin infusions to create a glow. The third layer is a pure Cocoa massage followed by a Cocoa mask, which perks up the sense immediately.

Ultra Detox
The Ultra Detox is a special treatment which uses Neroli and Patchouli to detoxify the skin and do away with the damage caused by pollution and stress. This treatment begins by cleansing the system with water, a jet drains the lymphatic nodes and exfoliates the dead skin. Vitamin C is then applied, followed by Patchouli and Neroli used in a massage on the face, neck, shoulders and upper back. This is then followed with a mud pack to complete the process.

Ultra Youth
The third option is the Ultra Youth which stimulates collagen and elasticity, while reducing signs of ageing through ingredients like Rose and Geranium oil and Vitamin C. The first step is microdermabasion, followed by an infusion of Licorice and Arbutin to restore the brightness of skin lost due exposure to the sun. The next step has saffron and essential oils such as Rose and Geranium used as well Wheatgerm and moisturizing extra virgin Olive oil in the massage cream to help delay collagen breakdown. The final layer is the Kaya InstaGlow mask for instant results. Think of it as skin SOS, perfect if you want your skin to glow and look like a million bucks before any special occasion.

Love and Colors in Chandigarh

Munich-based Photographers Carmen and Ingo shared with us the gorgeous images of a beautiful wedding they photographed in Chandigarh. Kismet Jewell Nakai and Nitin Sarin, are both from Chandigarh, and their fun-filled celebrations were held over four days. What particularly caught our attention were the colorful yet simple decor elements so creatively used to deck all the venues.

Here are glimpses from the pre-wedding celebration@ Kismet’s home, the wedding celebration at a farmhouse, the reception with over 1,500 guests and the post-wedding shoot at an open space, next to the wedding venue. Carmen and Ingo tell us more: “It’s been on our wish list for quite some time to cover an Indian wedding. India is one of our most favorite countries in the world and we were completely honored that Kismet and Nitin choose us to be part of their amazing event in Chandigarh. For us we have not just met so many wonderful and friendly people but also got to photograph the loveliest couple on this planet. To capture this day and it’s beauty to make it unforgettable for the bride and groom was an easy task. Everything was just beautiful and prepared with so much love. Little do Kismet and Nitin know that actually they made it an unforgettable experience for us!”

Guest Celebrity Blogger- Payal Singhal

Payal Singhal, the fashion label and WeddingSutra.com started their respective journeys around the same time. We were the fresh, young talent in the bridal & fashion space, both targeting the net-savvy audience. When WeddingSutra first approached me for featuring my collection on the site, I was most excited- one, it was a medium I understood, two- WeddingSutra’s approach was in sync with our brand’s ideology. We commenced our association twelve years ago– and every interaction with the team, has been just-so-perfect.

What I like most about WeddingSutra, is that there’s something in it for everyone, whether or not they are getting married. It beautifully showcases news and trends from the world of weddings, and offers in-depth information with photo features for those seeking wedding shopping and planning advice. I visit WeddingSutra regularly for updates on fashion and celebrity weddings. Their other section which particularly interests me is Real Brides, Real Style as a fashion designer who is dealing primarily with a bridal clientele, it’s fascinating to know why Real brides from different cities chose what they chose, or what they kept in mind while making their choices.

It is so heartening that both Payal Singhal, the pret and couture label and WeddingSutra, the wedding portal have grown from strength to strength. My message to the founders- looking forward to more milestones, and celebrating 25 or 50 years!
