Love Actually- Akanksha Shrivastava and Adhiraj Sarmah’s Platinum Day of Love

Our new initiative- ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring engaged couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates the beautiful people in love as they start their lives together. Because real love can only begin, never end. Over coffee, a makeover and a photo shoot we get to-be-weds to tell us how they met, show us their platinum love bands and talk about their day of love.

Most people who are close to Akanksha and Adhiraj will agree that the couple is a classic example of the cliché – ‘opposites attract’. While Akanksha fell for his serene ways, Adhiraj was enamored by her bubbly charm. Adhiraj, a Business Development professional and Akanksha, a Strategy Consultant, met during a fellowship program in Delhi, “and we got to know each other really well while working together on classroom projects, chit-chatting for hours in the hostel corridors and practicing Tango moves in our leisure time”, says Akanksha.

Post their graduation, they moved to Gurgaon to take up their respective jobs. However, that left them with little time for each other due to their hectic schedules, so they decided to tie the knot to get more time and space in each other’s lives. Says Akanksha: “The most romantic moment for me was when he proposed to me at the Lotus Temple in Delhi. I found the spiritual ambience of the place extremely romantic and thoughtful.” Adhiraj recalls “Akanksha was really moved and couldn’t hold back her tears, while I was secretly smiling as I knew it was her way of saying ‘Yes’.”

“My parents were always fond of Adhiraj and used to drop hints of their approval every time the topic of marriage was initiated”, says Akanksha, “though it took some time for Adhiraj to convince his parents.’ However, once the families met at his native place in Assam, there was no looking back.”

Initially, there was a lot of back and forth while narrowing down on wedding dates, time and venues as there were only few dates that were auspicious for both sides. “One day the wedding date would be decided for May, and the next day the date would be shifted to June” recalls Akanksha. Finally the date was decided, 25th June and the venue, next to a beautiful lake in Bhopal.

The couple is currently busy with their wedding planning, which they feel is as exciting as is stressful. “The most exciting part of wedding planning thus far has been staying up a whole night to design our wacky invitation card, which is inspired by Bollywood and Indian kitsch art”, says Adhiraj. Adds Akanksha: “What I enjoy most is getting updated on the latest bridal fashion and wedding décor trends, I equally enjoy watching wedding films which are no less than works of art and a great source for interesting ideas”, says Akanksha. Adhiraj concludes: “Funnily enough, we have been discussing and trying to finalize our honeymoon for weeks now but we’ve been unable to freeze on one destination because every location has something unique to offer.”
