Creatively Crafted and Rooted in Traditions: Anushi and Parth’s Wedding Invite

Anushi and Parth, belonging to the same group of friends from school realised their love for each other when they were in the first year of college. After being in a relationship for almost seven years they tied the knot in an intimate and traditional ceremony. ‘A small guest list with bigger spaces’ was their vision and a lily-pond, floating oil-lamps, simple flower décor, glittering mirrors on moli threads and traditional dhoop came together to create a perfect twilight wedding setting.

For the wedding invite and decor Anushi got in touch with Sagar Shah, her best friend from college. An Interior Designer by profession, Sagar started working in the field of graphics and visual communication and is currently completing his research on Hindi cinema and its interior design trends. Sagar tells us about the couple’s brief for the invite: “The idea was to make it very rooted. They also wanted some caricatures but in a very traditional manner. The invite included a custom-made clay vessel containing all the shagun- akshat (rice grains), kumkum, saakar (raw sugar), ganesha on sopari (betel nut) and the main invite with all the function details. The invite was covered with screen-printed illustration on fabric, tied with nadachhadi (moli thread) and ghoogroo.

The illustration narrated the journey of Anushi and Parth’s relationship till the wedding! The idea behind the vessel in the covered fabric was to enhance the gesture of giving. All the invites and goodies were assembled and packed with hands and lots of love. We stuck to our idea of using local artisans, materials and elements. To maintain the traditional look, we made the entire invite in Gujarati (first language of both bride and groom).”
