Gurleen Puri designs ‘Dressing Room’ for Manish Malhotra Show, Lakmé Fashion Week Grand Finale

By Jaspreet Soni

Gurleen M Puri, one of India’s top events and wedding stylists, is all set to recreate the magical world of brides –a room of beauty, dreams and romance – on the ramp for Manish Malhotra’s bridal collection at the Lakmé Fashion Week Grand Finale. ‘The Dressing Room’ set is a perfect confluence of Manish’s style sensibilities and Gurleen’s creativity. Manish’s designs are known for the opulence and old world charm, with a twist of modernity and that is exactly what Gurleen has accentuated in the décor by bringing in European elements. Gurleen says, “It is all about the making of a bride. You feel the moment and not just see it. We have tried to capture the essence. We have used Victorian chandeliers, antique furniture. And we have flown in lots of European flowers right from hydrangeas to tulips and liliums. The timing is just perfect as the flowers are in full bloom in this season. There are blushing pinks and pristine whites. The delicateness, the beauty of the moment has to come out.”

While the reflection in the idea is Manish, the softness, the volume, the larger-than- life implementation is Gurleen. A perfect combination, we say. Manish knew Gurleen was the only one who could take this to another level and Gurleen had an exact understanding of what Manish wanted.  But when two highly creative people come together, is the confluence easier?  She says, “It is like creating a perfect dream world for the bride. And it is possible only if you understand the bride and bring her reflection in the décor for everyone to see. Manish understands our style and we know what his expectations are from us and it is this understanding that bridges all the creative gaps. We have tried to make the idea lively and translate it into a reality. Hopefully, we have achieved it.”

This is Manish Malhotra’s fourth finale at LFW. This season, the celebrated designer will be showcasing Lakmé Absolute’s bridal trousseau and a look inspired by Lakmé Absolute.

She concludes: “It is the interpretation of the bride of today- soft, beautiful, romantic, sensual, old world charm mixed with new world ideologies.” While we have been witness to all the Lakmé Grand Finale’s since its inception in 2000, this is one finale we’re truly excited about.
