Vanessa Williams’ Wedding Invitation Design

UK based Wedding Invitations Company – Adorn Invitations was handpicked by celebrity Vanessa Williams (Miss America, multi-platinum recording artist and Golden Globe winner) to craft her wedding invitations.
Background to the Wedding of the Year
Before they began the design process, the team at Adorn needed a comprehensive, intuitive understanding of the tone and theme the couple, Vanessa Williams and Jim Skrip, wanted to set at their wedding.
“We were told of their initial romantic meeting whilst the two were holidaying in Egypt; both were cruising down the Nile when Vanessa started up a conversation with Jim about his Buffalo Sabres shirt. Therefore, the couple had decided to match their wedding style with their exotic meeting, resulting in a luxurious Egyptian theme.
From thereon, Vanessa shared more of her wedding details; her chosen decorations, floral centre pieces, right down to the two gowns she had designed by Carman Mark Valvo. It became apparent to us that gold was a necessity, and flowers were also playing a large role throughout her wedding theme.”
The Design Process
“Once the brief was clear to the Adorn team, our designers compiled different colour and pattern combinations and inspiration to present to the couple. Working as a team, refining each other’s individual designs and ideas, the designers eventually sent multiple samples to Vanessa and Jim.”
They loved it! After much positive feedback and discussion with the couple, “we decided on the combination of gold and Marsala as the colour theme, and a replication of the pattern from one of Vanessa’s gowns as the laser cut pattern. Before starting the production of Vanessa and Jim’s chosen design we sent them physical prototypes, to seek any further feedback and gain their 100% approval.”
Making of the Invitations
There were numerous print techniques and special finished applied in creating Vanessa’s perfect invitations – from letterpress and foil stamping effects to offset printing and laser cutting.
“We used machinery that was originally manufactured back in the 1850’s to produce a flawless and authentic Marsala colour, through a mixture of ink, to apply to the different cards and envelopes.”
Gold foiling was used for all wording on the invitations and accessory cards. This technique added the perfect regal elegance the team was aiming for. Precision laser cutting was used to replicate the intricate floral detail from one of Vanessa’s gowns, to frame the invitations.
The Adorn team then hand assembled each invitation, mounting the gold-foiled sheets onto the delicate laser cut pockets. As a final addition to the couple’s stunning invitations, they had 14-carat gold plated lotus leafs individually hand applied to the invitations for the perfect finishing touch.
“We knew that this final detail would tie everything together beautifully as the lotus leaf held a very special meaning to the couple, with Jim even incorporating a carved lotus leaf behind the diamond on Vanessa’s engagement ring.”
The result was a magnificent finish, adored by Vanessa’s friends and relatives alike.
