A Wedding in the Wilderness
May 21, 2013 Destination Weddings, Taj Hotels Resorts Palaces
Earlier this year Australian journalist Michael Krape’s daughter, Talia Krape– Latin and Bollywood dancer married actor beau Jonathan Patrick Moore in a Jewish wedding at the Taj Safaris Pashan Garh resort. Set amidst wilderness, the décor and set-up was predominantly Indian with pre wedding functions including the Mehendi. The bride sat in the comfort of the palanquin as she was adorned with henna; guests welcomed and entertained with traditional folk music performances and the bride arrived in a flower decked ‘palki’. The traditional synagogue was replaced with a jungle setting as the couple exchanged wows under a marigold canopy within the 200 acres of wilderness at Pashan Garh. The result- a cherished memory for a lifetime!

Talia Krape spoke about her exquisite wedding. “Every moment of our wedding at Pashan Garh gave us memories to savour for a lifetime. We wanted something different and authentic. You only ever plan to have one wedding in your life so it was important for us to find an experience that was ‘off the beaten’ track without compromising on the creature comforts.” Adds Jonathan Patrick Moore: “As if by magic we found Pashan Garh! Everything was beyond our expectations, from the accommodation and the meals to the activities that had been carefully planned by the wonderful staff. Nothing was left to chance but nothing felt contrived or out of place. It was truly the most wonderful week for us and our guests.”

Tucked away in the outskirts of the National Parks in Madhya Pradesh, Taj Safari chalets namely ‘Mahua Kothi’ in Bandhavgarh, ‘Baghvan’ in Pench, ‘Pashan Garh’ in Panna and ‘Banjaar Tola’ in Kanha are sensitively plugged to their wilder surroundings. Rich with its verdant flora and fauna Taj Safaris serves as an idyllic venue for any kind of destination wedding.
The Royal Jiva Spa Boat
Apr 26, 2013 Taj Hotels Resorts Palaces
Soak your senses at the Royal Jiva Spa Boat on the tranquil waters of Lake Pichola. This unique spa experience recreates the splendor of the Lake Palace, the royal traditions of the House of Mewar and the rejuvenating experiences of the Jiva Spa.
Inspired by the style of the old palaces of Udaipur, the Jiva Spa Boat evokes the stately air of past royal cruises aboard the House of Mewar’s ceremonial Gangaur barge. The design of the boat fuses historical and regal references with contemporary design, featuring a spacious, air conditioned double spa suite, a relaxation lounge, steam bath and shower. The suite opens out onto a large sky deck, which offers a soak pool, traditional lounging bed and dining area with views to the Aravalli Mountains– the oldest in the world.
The Jiva Spa menu has been designed to nurture the individual’s Jiva or ‘Life Force’ as the name signifies. Guests can choose tailor made spa experiences to suit their mood. For the treatment, we recommend you pick the Royal Spa Sojourn with Mewar Khas, a luxurious pre-bathing ritual practiced by royalty in preparation for their wedding day! After the treatment, recline on the private deck and enjoy drinks and freshly prepared meals, which are served through the day.

A lavish wedding on the heritage lawns of Taj West End
Mar 28, 2013 Taj Hotels Resorts Palaces, Wedding People & Planners
Sameer Gurjer and Madhuri Vijaykumar got married at the Taj West End, Bangalore. The duo work and live in Mumbai, while Madhuri and Sameer’s parents live in Bangalore. The city’s landmark 125 year old hotel has always been the favorite hotel of both families so they were sure it had to be the venue for the big day. Moreover, they were looking for a central venue in the city and the lush Prince of Wales Lawns of Taj West End seemed the perfect choice.

Madhuri and Sameer
The wedding celebrations commenced with a Mehendi at Atria Hotel, and a Sangeet at the same venue. Hriday Daswani, the Wedding Planner tells us more: “The highlight of the Sangeet was the performance by Mumbai based flamer Ami Shroff who gave an outstanding performance with her bar stunts and flaming performances. Later, DJ Jasmeet rocked the night”
The morning wedding and evening reception were both held at Taj West End. The décor for the morning wedding was simple as the acres of landscaped gardens tell their own tale. Colors yellow and marigold, and temple copper bells added the little element of beauty. The wedding was held as per Maharashtrian traditions (Sameer is Maharashtrian and Madhuri is Tamilian) and the food was a mix of Maharashtrian and Tamilian delicacies. The ‘Thank you’ gifts were products from Koppa Estates, the plantation run by Sameer’s family- tea, coffee, cardamom, black pepper and honey. Pasted on the honey bottles were stickers with the text ‘Honey, our love is meant to be’.

The Wedding held as per Maharashtrian traditions
Over 800 guests attended the evening reception, and the heritage lawns looked even more elegant by night with marigolds, candles and glass decor, while the ladies glittered in shimmering sarees and rich Kanjeevarams. The food was a mix of Asian, North Indian and South Indian delicacies. Says Hriday: “Interestingly, I met Sameer and Madhuri in person just two days before the wedding; they were a relaxed couple, who told their parents to go ahead and take all the decisions on the wedding. And when D-day came both the bride and groom were pleasantly surprised with their parents picks, and happy with all our efforts.”

Baghvan- A Heavenly Experience
Feb 12, 2013 Taj Hotels Resorts Palaces
Nikita Azad and Sandeep Kamath from Mumbai wanted a very unique locale for their pre-wedding shoot;. When they heard about Taj Safaris Jungle Lodges in Madhya Pradesh they knew it can’t get more fun and interesting than this. Nikita blogs about their stay there.

Even ten days after we are back, it’s hard to get over the beauty and serenity of Baghvan, simply because once you have set foot in the lodge in the middle of a jungle, real life seems dull and boring. This feeling may be a result of the pampering by the amazing staff at Baghvan, or the delicious food (especially the ‘out of the world’ paneer dishes) and the Safari through Pench National Park with breakfast in the jungle; or the fact that there is no television or mobile connectivity in the cottages
that allow us to really ‘take a break’ from ‘real life’ to have a ‘real vacation’. Our experience of all of this and more over a period of two days at Baghvan was enough to make us fall in love with Baghvan and with each other, all over again. Yes, it’s that kind of a place – a place that can magically turn someone as conservative as my fiancé, into a blatant romantic, and I wasn’t going to complain about that.

The Cottages
Each cottage has been designed and decorated for luxury and has the jungle all around it. My favorite place in the cottage was the Machaan. With our schedule and the photo shoot we spent very less time there, but even that one hour was magical. The greenery that pours into the open Machaan from all four sides has a certain charm that only nature can bring. Add the chirping of birds, the swish of the trees, the rustling of leaves and the gorgeous morning winter sunshine to the scene and it can make a twenty year old long for retirement and spend every single living moment up there. All I could do was imagine myself looking into the wilderness with my laptop in front of me and write. All day long!

The Safari
In the middle of the hectic schedule, we were able to make time and experience the Safari, because really, it would be a shame to visit one of the Taj Safari Lodges and miss on that. The whole experience was not only enchanting– what with being in the forest even before sunrise, it was also very educational. Our Naturalist, Sajith Ponnappa, explained to us in great detail about the laws and hierarchy of the jungle kingdom, the habits and characteristics of the predators, various bird and animal calls, and answered every question we had. It was amazing to see how the animals were nonchalant about our presence and walked along the jungle casually while we were enamored by their existence.

Romantic Dining
One of the highlights of our trip was the dinner in an absolutely romantic setting with lanterns and candles. It was one of the most memorable moments of the trip.

The After Effects
Like all good things, this experience too had to come to an end. Saying goodbye to Baghvan was like leaving paradise and as much as it hurts to come back home, we had to. As I said earlier, it has been ten days since we’re back and we’re still mesmerized by the whole experience and I don’t see ourselves getting over it anytime sooner. We can’t wait to go back and visit the three other Safari lodges and live in paradise again.

Destination Hyderabad
Nov 12, 2012 Destination Weddings, Taj Hotels Resorts Palaces
The Taj Group of Hotels in association with WeddingSutra.com invited some of India’s luxury wedding planners to stay at Hyderabad’s legendary Falaknuma Palace. Many of India’s grandest weddings have taken place in Hyderabad and with the revival of palace properties like Taj Falaknuma Palace and Chowmallah Palace, the invitees were most excited to visit Hyderabad- after all, they would not only experience the hospitality of the Taj Group, they would also get to see how and why the group spent 15 years restoring and renovating the palace.

A horse-drawn carriage (restored from the Nizam’s time) takes guests up a hill to the palace.
The Taj Falaknuma Palace is like no Indian palace most of us have seen in Rajasthan and other states, it looks almost European– a grand country mansion of an English nobleman.

More a palace, than a hotel.

“So you stayed at the magnificent Falaknuma. I’m envious”? many friends remarked. Staying there was not just a special experience, it was an experience of a lifetime- after all Falaknuma Palace offers guests an experience than is hard to replicate anywhere in the world.

Taj West End reminds guests of the old Bangalore
Jun 20, 2012 Taj Hotels Resorts Palaces
The Taj West End is a lush property in the middle of bustling Bangalore. The landmark hotel located next to the Golf Club and across the Turf Club offers the real flavor of Bangalore with gardens being intrinsic to the overall experience. Divya Chauhan and Vithika Agarwal who run Bangalore-based Divya Vithika Wedding Planners spoke to Sanjay Sood, General Manager of Taj West End to know more the property and how they create events to delight couples!

Sanjay Sood, Vithika (centre) and Divya (right)

What makes the Taj West End so special?
The history, heritage and the whole environ the landmark hotel is set in. It’s a private sanctuary, in the middle of the city, a place where you can unwind in the natural environment. It reminds people of the old Bangalore, the green Bangalore. There are enough venues within the hotel where guests can have different experiences without stepping out- like the spa or nature works. But most importantly, it has an ambience where you feel totally relaxed.
How many weddings do you host every year?
On an average we host around six weddings a month, so about sixty to seventy weddings a year. The weddings range from small gatherings to grand scale ones (maximum 500 hundred guests). The most preferred venues are the Ballroom and the Princess of Wales lawns.
Tell us more about your clientele
A lot are from Bangalore, many NRIs and some from other places all over India. Usually it is the people who have some kind of relationship with Bangalore. Those who want to renew their emotional connect with the city and explore the heritage.
Another factor that gives us the edge is our long innings. The parents who got married here want their children to start their married life here as well– carrying the good luck forward.
Food and cuisine, how is the offering from The Taj different?
Taj is associated with royalty so our menu and cuisine integrate this philosophy. We offer a wide variety depending upon the theme. The most popular are the cuisine of the royal palaces.
For weddings, there are a lot of region-specific requirements and must-haves and must-avoids. So our chefs make all the efforts to keep every single requirement of a client into consideration.
What are the other services that Taj offers apart from catering?
We have a dedicated team which arranges for interactions with other vendors like local designers, wedding planners, mehendi artists, band organizers. We also plan tours, activities outside the hotel if the guests have free time on hand. So we try to give them an experience, rather than just a comfortable stay.
What budget should clients keep in mind if they’re planning a wedding at a premier property like yours?
It depends on the season and the vendors you have tied up with. But typically a room costs between 250 -350 USD and catering ranges between 50-100 and sometimes 150 USD. But we develop customized packages. The sales team sits with the client, understands their requirements to build a package to suit their budget.
Clients should get in touch with us, depending on when they are getting married. Usually, December weddings are booked almost a year in advance.
Do the clients have to work with your preferred vendors or they can have their own set of people?
Of course they can. We do not interfere with that process. But any new vendors have to agree to the rules and regulations especially while putting up the decorations, flowers, fabrics etc. We make sure that they work in tandem with our team so there is no miscommunication
Do you have restrictions like no-baraat on the premises?
Yes, we do because we do not want our other guests to be disturbed. We do help in organization of the baraat outside the hotel. And also provide carriages, cars or other assistance for the groom and party when they enter the premises to reach the specific lawn or venue.
You have to do a balancing act between business clients and wedding clients. How do you manage the delicate balance?
Some people have a misconception (from the look and feel of our property) that we are not a business hotel. But in reality, we have a lot of business travelers who prefer to stay in a quaint place like ours. We keep two blocks reserved for the corporate clients so that they can stay peacefully and have their privacy even when a wedding is going on in the premises.
We have talked a lot about the property, now we’d like to know a little about you.
Well, it has been a fantastic journey—I’ve been with the Taj for 26 years. I’ve been married since 16 years and I have two beautiful daughters. In my long stint with the group, I have worked all over India- Kolkata, Bombay, Chennai and now Bangalore. The best part of working with The Taj is that you develop a lifelong relationship with the organization.

The view is stunning and changes with the seasons: Get a bird’s eye view of the spring-summer magical bloom of the Tulip Gardens, the snow-capped peaks of the Zabarwan range in winter, Gulmarg range in spring and the golden glow of the Chinars in autumn.

The resort is built on the ramparts of a Dutch fort and is almost one with the Bay of Bengal. With its charm and individual character the resort is an idyllic setting for a seaside renewal of wedding vows.
Like all the Vivanta By Taj properties the renewed villas and rooms are a delight to stay in, but what sets this resort apart are the delightful and detailed theme options for weddings and celebrations. Apart from the grand Indian traditional setup, you can choose from a South Indian fare, a Beach Contemporary setup, a Romantic wedding, a Pure Elegant White theme or a Floral Fantasy. Each of these has been created with painstaking details. My favourite- the Romantic wedding theme: a heady mix of the beach with beautiful moonlit waters, flowers, fabric and soft lazy music makes you want to fall in love again and again and again…

Savoy Hotel – Ooty
Ensconced high on a rising hill, the Savoy Hotel sprawls over six acres of landscaped gardens, offering colonial style cottages that were built in the 19th century. The Rebak island, named after the native Rebak tree, is one of the 99 isles that make up the legendary Langkawi.
The newly appointed rooms have wooden flooring with contemporary interiors, yet retain the charm of a Malaysian dwelling. The rooms enjoy soothing views of beautiful landscaped gardens or the picturesque Senari Straits. Ten Best Places to get married
Mar 13, 2012 Taj Hotels Resorts Palaces
Umaid Bhawan, Jodhpur
