Brides and Grooms who are ardent fans of Bollywood can now live their Bollywood dream on their wedding day. Indian Hippy specialises in hand painted Bollywood-style posters that can be reproduced on a host of formats for weddings—invitations, backdrops, posters. Says Hinesh Jethwani, Founder, Indian Hippy, “It’s everyone’s fantasy to be immortalized into a poster of their favorite film. Our customized hand painted Bollywood film posters are a big hit at weddings, both as displays as well as gifts.”

So how does this work?
“Superimposing everyday faces into film posters is a very tedious job that only highly experienced film poster artists can accomplish since it involves the painstaking task of hand painting posters of popular Indian movies with the faces of the actors replaced with the customer’s. It’s almost like a mash up of portraits and film poster art,” explains Hinesh. All the customer needs to do is simply send Indian Hippy their photos via email. Indian Hippy’s expert team of acclaimed Bollywood film poster artists then study the photographs to understand facial characteristics, features and expressions, and proceed to paint as required.

Indian Hippy is the only company that offers exclusive stage backdrops for weddings that are hand painted in Bollywood film poster style. Painstakingly hand painted to perfection, the backdrops are created using photographs supplied by the couple of some of their most treasured/sentimental moments. The overall feel of the backdrop is like a Bollywood film poster – it tells a love story through beautifully interconnected portraits of the couple, all in film poster style. Explains Hinesh: “Later, after the wedding the poster can be framed and preserved for a lifetime.”

A very high profile Indian wedding is taking place in February next year—steel magnate Sajjan Jindal’s elder daughter Tarini is marrying Abu Dhabi based businessman Vikram Handa. The wedding celebrations are in Delhi where Vikram’s parents and Tarini’s extended family live.

Tarini runs Muse, the multi-designer store at Mumbai’s heritage precinct Kala Ghoda and her mother Sangita Jindal, a well-known philanthropist runs the Jindal Arts Centre at NCPA. While India’s top Wedding vendors have been vying to lend their services for the Jindal wedding, the friends of the family are looking forward to what is expected to be the classiest Indian wedding of 2011. WeddingSutra emailed Tarini requesting for more details, but she sent a prompt and polite reply stating that at this point, she’d like to keep all the details private.

In June this year, the Jindals hosted their younger daughter Tanvi’s marriage in Florence. Guests referred to the fairy-tale wedding of Tanvi and Krishna Shete as the most amazing experience, and the Italian media called it the Maharaja-style wedding of an Indian Princess. The functions included a welcome-luncheon at the lavish lawns of the Four Seasons hotel and a dinner at Palazzo Corsini, the magnificent palace overlooking the Arno River. The main wedding function was at Villa Le Rose, the luxurious villa owned by the Ferragamo family. The food spread at the different functions included an all-vegetarian spread of Italian, Lebanese, and Indian specialities from Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur and Benares, created by Italy’s Galateo caterers, Delhi’s celebrity chef Ritu Dalmia and London based V8 Gourmet Global Group.

A very beautiful or handsome person can have confidence issues too. And I have always been intrigued by the “Why is it so factor”. A few months ago a good friend informed me that her parents were in search of a suitable boy; around the same time she started dating a foreigner to ‘pass time’ and soon, she liked him, and perhaps, loved him too. Her parents finally found a suitable boy, and she married the man, her parents deemed fit. When I scratched the surface as to why she wouldn’t follow her heart and take a risk it made me think more and more.

To start with I must say, I felt sad after thinking about all this. Why did she do this? Did she risk outcast from the people who brought her into this world? Or was she scared that she would be blamed if the relationship didn’t work out? Or is it that she is so low in self-esteem that she cannot confront her parents and tell them “Mum/ Dad, I’m an adult and I know what I want for the rest of my life—and I’ve made up my mind—I want to marry Mr X”.

The story is sad not because he is left without a real justification or reason why they are not together but because she is now living a life her family wants rather than what she wants. Will she be happy now? Perhaps! After all, it would be foolish to judge the consequences of her decision, or forecast the future of her marriage. Life can be a bowl of ice-cream with chocolate sprinkles but nothing in this world is absolute or certain except birth and death. To be truly happy we must be content in our own skin, with our own decisions. Living a life of conformity is not a life of true happiness, people who think that to follow others is happiness are delusional; don’t get me wrong I am neither pro or against any custom or religion. I am pro-choice, I believe everyone has the right to choose freely on what they want “their” life to look like and the people around you ESPECIALLY your family and friends have to respect that and believe that as a human you can live and love how you choose. Having choice is great, and if you choose to conform its fine! As long as it is your choice and you have the experience and mindset to make that decision.

We can all make a change and all of us can embrace this. All of you know someone who is in a situation like this, I know you do! Tell them it is ok, spend time with them as a couple, tell them you support them, if they decide whichever way, say you will always be there.

No, Queenie Dhody is not getting married. The Style Diva is set to launch a new Wedding-related business in association with Gitanjali Lifestyle. The venture will offer Makeovers to Brides-to-be and Wedding Planning services to Brides, Grooms and their families. Says Mumbai’s Fashion Icon: “Wedding Planning is an Art—and I enjoy the creative process of organising parties and entertaining. While I wouldn’t enjoy organising parties for individuals or corporate houses, I’d love to help families plan and organise the most important day of their lives.” She adds: “But what I enjoy most is giving women a complete makeover— they are so excited to experience something that will give them an all-new look”.

The multi-faceted Queenie’s tryst with style began when she started modelling in her teenage years. In the last decade or so, the former Beauty Queen has dabbled in several style-related endeavours—in 2004 she ventured into the business of skin care and started Skin Essence, a therapeutic skin care line formulated by South Mumbai’s best-kept secret dermatologist Dr Dinyar Workingboxwalla. Around the same time, she worked on the Makeover of Sony TV’s popular star ‘Jassi’ in ‘Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin’. Last year, she opened her store ‘Jewels by Queenie’ and more recently launched a new jewellery line with Gitanjali Lifestyle. She also writes on Fashion & Style for select publications.

With all her work, style and social commitments, how will Page 3’s favourite face find time to meet and design solutions for time-pressed Brides and their families? “Jewellery designing will continue to be my main profession, and for the new makeover and marriage venture, I’ll have with me a team who will take care of execution—so I can concentrate on the style and creative ideas bit”, says Queenie emphasising that her Wedding services will suit clients with varied budgets and style interests. “Me and Mehul Choksi of Gitanjali Lifestyle, will soon announce details on our offering and the customer experience; but clearly our services will not be for super-rich brides or their families alone”

The very talented actors Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranvir Shorey are tying the knot. The couple have been living together for a while, but they have always kept their relationship private; the wedding has not been announced and the hush-hush wedding is at the couple’s residence in Goregaon, Mumbai.

Konkona, 31 is the daughter of journalist Mukul Sharma and noted actress and film-maker Aparna Sen. After graduating from St Stephen’s College, Delhi, Konkona embarked on a acting career in Art and Independent films, and her achievements in the genre have established her as one of the leading actresses of contemporary parallel cinema. Ranvir Shorey spent his childhood in Jalandhar and alongwith his friend and co-star Vinay Pathak he was the host of the hugely successful talk show Ranvir Vinay Aur Kaun. He made his Bollywood debut opposite Manisha Koirala in Ek Chotisi Love Story. He has received acclaim for his roles in Dasvidaniya, Singh is King and Pyaar Ke Side Effects.

Besides being a talented actress, Konkona is also a style icon for those who truly appreciate classic Indian fashion and styles. Often seen in earthy Indian colors, and creations with traditional Indian embroidery, Konkona opened the Amrapali show at the India International Jewellery Week wearing a five-row kundan neck piece, armlet, bangles, earrings and a choker. After the show Konkona was quizzed about what she’d like to wear for her own wedding and she responded: “I’ll wear my grandmother’s jewellery and sarees for my own shaadi”. We’re not sure what Konkona has chosen for her Big Day tomorrow, but whatever be her choices, we’re sure she’ll look gorgeous as always, and we wish both Konkona and Ranvir all luck in their lives ahead!

Leading designers Satya Paul and Manish Malhotra brought indian fashion to South Africa with their latest collections at the India Show. Manish Malhotra’s collection titled ‘Celebrations’ was inspired by various eras from the Mughal period to the Rajasthan royalty to contemporary bridal wear. Set in jewel tones and luxurious fabrics like velvets, antique brocades, the collection amalgamates traditional zardosi and thread work with saris, anarkalis, shararas and interpretations of these classics. What can we say, the collection was lustworthy.
