It was a much-awaited event in Mumbai’s social calendar, after all the host was Mr Perfectionist, Aamir Khan. The star-studded affair to celebrate the marriage of Imran Khan and Avantika Malik was held at Bollywood’s favourite wedding venue-Taj Lands End. Bollywood stars from different generations, top politicians and bureaucrats, industrialists, sportstars and socialites were there to bless the newly-weds. The Thakerays, Sachin Tendulkar and Ambani brothers were also there.

Bollywood heartthrob Imran Khan married Avantika, daughter of CNBC television head-honcho Vandana Malik at a quiet registered wedding at Imran Khan’s maternal home in Pali Hill, Mumbai. Among those who attended were Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao, Aamir’s ex-wife Reena and his children Junaid and Ira, Aamir Khan’s cousin Mansoor Khan and wife Tina. Avantika and Imran then hosted a quiet dinner for close family and friends at Taj Lands End, Bandra. The bride and groom both wore Manish Malhotra creations. Avantika was dressed in a light grey lehenga choli with a red border and gold work and Imran in a black bandhgala.
The newly-weds then arrived at Imran’s house in Pali Hill in a black Porsche decorated with white “Just Married” flags. The just-weds and their close family and friends now begin a three day vacation at the JW Marriott, Khao Lak Resort & Spa, Thailand.

Hear the sound of millions of hearts breaking- the most eligible bachelor of Bollywood, the oh-so-gorgeous Imran Khan gets one step closer to being hitched. His Mehendi-Sangeet ceremony was held at Avantika’s family farmhouse in Karjat with many from Bollywood in attendance. Avantika looked ravishing in a red lehenga by Manish Malhotra and the dashing Imran wore a blue sherwani by Karan Johar-Varun Bahl. Aamir also chose a Karan Johar-Varun Bahl sherwani and Kiran wore a lehenga from her favorite designer Sabyasachi. Mumbai’s most popular celebrity Mehendi artist Usha Shah decorated the bride and her guests hands.
The guests seen at the ceremony included Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Kunal Kapoor, Danish Aslam, Shahana Goswami, Karan Johar, Fahad Samar and Simone Singh, Ritu Shivpuri, Minissha Lamba, Ashutosh Rana, Chetan and Anusha Bhagat.

For the Mehendi and pre-wedding party the cooks are from a traditional family with a lineage of over 200 years. They’ve cooked for Nassir Hussain’s family for more than five decades, and the 22-member team, will be in Karjat with their vessels and spices. The menu is expected to feature Kakori, Shammi, Ghutwa, Boti and Sheek Kababs, apart from Nawabi kormas and biryanis. For the vegetarians, the food is from Mumbai’s famous restaurant Khyber.

Special Marriage Act
According to sources, the wedding will be registered under the Special Marriages Act, and not under the Hindu or Muslim law. Imran’s father Anil Pal, is a Bengali now living and working in the US. Anil Pal and Nuzhat separated when Imran was just over a year old. Nuzhat later married Aamir’s co-star Raj Zutshi.

On Monday, Avantika and Imran will be at the Marriage Registrar’s office after which they are hosting a party at the Taj Land’s End. Another glamorous couple is tying the knot. Big Boss actor Sameer Soni has announced that he will marry Neelam Kothari sometime in January or February. According to reports, this will be a low-key affair. This is the second marriage for the model turned actor, and the actress turned Jewellery Designer. Sameer was earlier married to Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar, and Neelam was married to a UK based businessman.

The other functions include a colorful mehendi at their Karjat farmhouse and a black, white and silver theme celebration on January 10. Select guests have received the invites, presented as a yearly planner for 2011, designed by Mumbai’s sought-after high-end invitation card designer Uttara Shah. Delhi designer Varun Bahl is designing Imran Khan’s wedding outfits. Avantika will wear a Manish Malhotra lehenga for the wedding, and a Shantanu-Nikhil gown for the main wedding function.
