Sherrin and Shefali
Shefali Panchal and Sherrin Varghese’ romantic white wedding and fun-filled reception at Malad, Mumbai

About the Couple

sherrin5.jpg (7906 bytes)Sherrin Varghese, a member of the all-male band, ‘Band of Boys’, is popularly known as Cherokee. He is best remembered for his three-year stint on Shekhar Suman’s Movers and Shakers as the front man of the Rubber Band. He has also portrayed the challenging role of Simon in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

Shefali Panchal, the daughter of a Mumbai based Neurosurgeon, works as a software engineer. Shefali and Sherrin studied together at an engineering college in Navi Mumbai and have known each other since nine years.

About the Wedding
The romantic white wedding was held on 21st December, 2003 at the Infant Jesus Chapel at Malad (Sherrin is from Malad and Shefali from Ghatkopar). Says Shefali, a Gujarati Hindu: “As a young girl, I would always dream of getting married in a Church. The beautiful interiors of the structure, and the flowing gowns, as seen in the movies, held a special place in my heart. And as fate would have it, I had the chance of having a beautiful church wedding.”

Shefali wore a pristine white and sparkling silver gown (bought from China) with gloves to match. To complement the traditional church wedding theme, the make-up look for Shefali (created by make-up artist Lippi Lal) was a combination of modernity and tradition.

White Wedding Evening Reception

The Reception
‘9 years of Courship, 90 more years of Marital Bliss’ was the huge placard that greeted the over 600 guests at the Ruia Lawns in Malad. So there were lots of 9’s and 90’s at the Blue and White theme Reception. 90 Balloons, 9 Bouquets lent colour to the traditional toast, wine and cake evening, while the guests danced away in their dazzling, ghagras and sherwanis to racy Indian and English tunes.

Shefali looked stunning in a turqoise blue sharara with silver colored embroidery, created by Sherrin’s designer sister Shelby Varghese. To complement the traditional Indian clothing with the fun filled mood of the evening, make-up artist Lippi Lal gave Shefali a more dramatic look- her hair was swept into a stylish chignon (to get it out of the way for all the dancing!) and decorated with beautiful white orchids. Sherrin looked dapper in a steel grey sherwani from My Shopee, Malad.

After the Celebrations
After the hectic wedding celebrations, Shefali and Sherrin checked in to the Intercontinental Hotel at Andheri to enjoy a few days of relaxation and luxury (their works commitments meant they couldn’t opt for a honeymoon immediately after marriage). “We’ve known since so many years that we have to keep reminding each other that we’re ‘married”, quip the cheerful duo. “We’re so happy that nothing went wrong, that all the stress boils were for trivial reasons and that we enjoyed the wedding day thoroughly.”
