Amazing Locations >>

Le Telfair Spa & Resort, Mauritius

As an events and wedding planner – I quite literally fell in love with Le Telfair when I first saw it online. After the very first phone call and email exchanged with the team at Le Telfair – I knew it would be the perfect destination wedding location.

Mauritius is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the world – and if you’re looking for a breath taking sunset beach wedding – then this tropical paradise is the only place for you !

Le Telfair is nestled in the South West coast of Mauritius and takes you back into a colonial era with stunning architecture that leaves you in awe. The property comprises of 158 rooms divided into 20 villas comprising of 6-8 rooms each. I remember staying in the Superior Room and thinking ‘did I just walk into a Suite ??’! Each room has a river, or sea view complete with floor-to-ceiling French windows and a small balcony or veranda.

The perfect start to any wedding festivities would be at Gin’ja, the hotels lagoon side restaurant overlooking the beach. The stylish restaurant is perfect for a Mauritian themed BBQ dinner complete with the local ‘sega dancers’ !

For a more formal dining affair, I recommend Le Château de Bel Ombre which is an enchanting historic house dating back from the 19th Century, surrounded by large oak trees and overlooks a French style garden. It is the ideal location for a formal colonial style dinner accentuated by a starry night !

One of the things I consider to be the selling point about Le Telfair is the fact that there are over a dozen activities one can avail of within the hotel premises that are completely free ! This means that the wedding groups can enjoy a large number of water activities such as wind surfing, glass bottom boat rides, and canoeing; yoga & tai chi sessions, tennis, volleyball and a 9 hole pitch and put golf course ! There’s an activity for everyone to choose from (which also reduces the financial burden on families planning destination weddings)

Depending on the time of the year one chooses to have their wedding – an all inclusive (full board) package will start from £195 to about £400 depending on the room category and choice of menus. Flights to Mauritius from India are in the region of Rs 20,000 to Rs 45,000 per person depending on the air carrier and time of the year. Rates can be negotiated for large groups flying together.

Typically a destination wedding in Mauritius would ideally suit the upper crust society families in India who are looking for a unique location that isn’t common amongst their social circle. There are direct flights from India as well as flights via Dubai to Mauritius. A large number of NRI families where mixed caste and love marriages are prevalent, would head across to Mauritius due to ease of access and for a more intimate yet elaborate wedding. Any couple that loves the sun, the sand, the call of nature – would fall instantly in love with Le Telfair and the facilities offered by the hotel. The rates might come across as steep but once you make your initial visit to Le Telfair, I can guarantee that you would come back with no other destination in mind for your special day !
