Kanika, an interior designer and Ashish Jain, an architect got married
on December 8th, 2010 at Devi Garh, the 18th century fort palace in
Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Decor, simple and all about Colour
The colourful, intimate wedding was a relaxed affair, and the
contemporary/ traditional decor was done by the couple’s dear friend
Viraj Mohan. Explains Kanika: “The decor, simple in approach was all
about colour! Graphics of the Sun and
Lotus were used extensively—in the invitation cards and for other
decor elements.”

Devi Garh
Adds Kanika: “When Ashish had been to Udaipur in 2006 he loved that
city, I myself had not been there. But since then he always insisted
that he would only get married in Udaipur. In Udaipur we had seen some
other venues, such as Fateh Garh and Jag Mandir, but nothing matched
up to Devi Garh.”

DJ Gaurav Malvai
The Delhi-based couple relied on Udaipur’s local vendors and
Delhi-based wedding vendors for most servies. Says Kanika: “We weren’t
too finicky about who is to do what, but were very keen that we wanted
the best DJ—so Gaurav Malvai was there.” For the wedding, Kanika wore
a self-designed lehenga, and Ashish wore a sherwani by the renowned
low-profile designer Rajesh Pratap Singh.

Wedding Photography by Anne Heslop
The other all-important element was photography for which they got in
touch with UK/ India based photographer Anne Heslop. For Anne it was
a most memorable travel & photography experience. She says: “Devi Garh
is the most romantic and beautiful venue for a wedding. Just being
there puts the family and guests at ease and smiles radiate from their
faces, making my job as a photographer so easy! The manager and staff
at the hotel were brilliant at keeping to schedule, and did such a
great job in ensuring the wedding was oh-so-perfect. I loved the
wedding because it was just how a wedding should be! Full of emotion,
fun and laughter!”
