Kimmi and Gurjot tied the knot in San Francisco, the city where they first met!
Here are more details and some breath-taking portraits from their multi-day cultural extravaganza starting with a winery sangeet, continuing to an elegant San Jose Gurdwara wedding, and ending with a glamorous San Francisco celebration!
Sangeet: this pre-wedding event was designed with a 'mela meets morocco' concept in mind. Bright colors, great ambiance and fun details via multiple food stations, bangle station for the ladies, and a 'Turban station' for the men were setup to make a stunning celebration of the traditional and the eclectic.
Wedding: Bold and bright at the gurdwara, going with an almost ombre feel, with sunset hues of yellow, orange and red paired with a bright pop of green. Details included flower vases with vintage bollywood movie poster cameos.
Reception: Kimmi and Gurjot are head over heels for one another, not to mention totally stylish. Their cocktail reception was dramatic and formal but with a fun and contemporary twist! The beautiful and elegant palette of yellow and black was complimented with modern typographic details, bird figurines inspired by their custom logo and stationery, birdcages and branches filled with happy yellow flowers. In lieu of a guest book, the wedding planners setup vintage dictionaries and asked guests to circle words that best described the bride & groom or their wedding celebration! Details included table names inspired by airport codes (a nod to the extensive travelling they both do!)
Gurjot and Kimmi, both from the San Francisco bay area originally, were living in two different time zones and happened to come home to California the same weekend. Kimmi flew from New York to California to attend her sister's housewarming. Gurjot flew from Texas to California to visit his family and friends. They had heard of each other through a mutual friend and were told that they should definitely meet in person. Gurjot took Kimmi out for Sushi (her favorite unbeknownst to him!) and despite both planning to be home within an hour or two, the date lasted four hours! They immediately hit it off and after continuing to meet up in cities across the United States, both realized that despite the long distance, there was something there that made the miles worth it!
However, one more obstacle remained. Kimmi had planned to pursue her MBA internationally, and a year into their relationship, she would begin London Business School and be across the Atlantic for the following two years. Gurjot encouraged Kimmi to follow her goals and spent the next year and a half traveling back and forth to London every month. They explored Europe together, and after earning Virgin Atlantic super-status and being on a first name basis with the airport staff, Gurjot proposed to Kimmi in Beverly Hills at the SLS hotel. The engagement in Los Angeles had double significance because it was the one city where they both had lived and went to school - Kimmi had gone to UCLA and Gurjot to USC (rival schools) - before they knew each other. But now the engagement would become their fondest memory in the City of Angels.
