10 Must Do's While on a Winter Honeymoon in Paris
Travel & Honeymoon - Jan 11, 2018
The City of Lights gets even more magical with a sprinkling of frost! Plan a winter getaway to Paris for a mix of relaxation and adventure.
There’s nothing more romantic than being able to say, “We’ll always have Paris,” and mean it! Bright, festive and thrillingly different in the winter, a cultural capital like Paris shines alluringly as the mercury drops. The City of Lights is beckoning anyone who’s looking for only the most romantic place on earth, with cosying-up weather to boot!
Baby, it may be cold outside but here are 10 things you can do, snuggled up nice and tight with the one you love, in Paris.
1. Wine and Champagne Tasting in the Heart of Paris
A tribute to the spirit of France! This is an adventure for wine and champagne enthusiasts. Uncork the secrets of fine bottles with a hands-on workshop conducted in an old cellar. Guided by an expert, you’ll learn about all the steps that go into producing a fine blend or simply enjoy a tasting. Make your way to Les Caves du Louvre, Dilettantes or De Vinis Illustribus to explore a one-of-a-kind experience in an authentic setting. Tchin tchin!

2. A Dream Photo Shoot in Paris
Towering, majestic, iconic – the monuments in Paris range from modern to medieval and are all beautiful to behold. You’ve always known they’d made a super backdrop to an epic couple photo shoot but imagine those backdrops without the bazillion summer tourists milling in the background. While you’ll never have these monuments entirely to yourself, winter does thin the crowd out. Now all you have to do is hire a photographer, take a 20-minute walk and you’ll have the Eiffel Tower, the gilded cap of the Les Invalides, the Louvre, the Seine all in your album! (And if someone says ‘Tu es mignon’ – say ‘merci’ because they’re saying you’re cute!)

3. Cozy up in Cafes
Those Parisian cafés and their histories – writers, artists, thinkers, philosophers and revolutionaries have all sat at their tables, espresso in hand, ready to change the world. But when all you want to do is shut the world out and focus on your better half, each of the city’s thousands of cafés is the perfect place to do so. From Latin Quarter and Montmartre to Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Le Marais, you’ll find charming and unique cafes dotted all over. This is old-Paris glamor and it’s trop cool.

4. Discover Must-See Châteaux
A day trip to the iconic and visually stunning estates allows you to see some of France’s most beautiful châteaux. There are plenty within an hour of Paris, by car, train, or metro that can be easily explored in a single, history-filled day. Many of these properties are little-known gems, while others contain world-class museums or are located in the midst of gorgeous gardens and untamed forests. One of many such palaces is the Château de Versailles – together with its gardens, the Château de Versailles is perfect to explore a world of majesty, history and serenity with your better half.

5. Live like the Parisians
Breaking out of tourist mode is tough in any city, but dig a bit deeper. Winter is the perfect time to experience the local life. What do the Parisians do? Maybe catch some jazz at Le Méridien Etoile’s Jazz Club or Au Duc des Lombards. Find modern art across the smaller museums spread across Paris (though even the bigger museums are less crowded at this time). And then dive into the heart of the Frenchy-French when you visit one of those famous Paris salons (fairs). Open to anyone and everyone, these energetic events involve outrageous displays, food and wine, and loads of fun.

6. Indulge in Haute Cuisine
You won’t struggle to find a restaurant serving a delicious réveillon feast in your budget and neighborhood but you may find some winter specials that will warm you from the inside out. Let your taste buds go into overdrive; indulge in romantic authentic French cuisine or attend a baking workshop with your partner. Discover Alain Duccasse’s gourmet menu in his Three Michelin-starred restaurant – Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée or devour vegetarian world cuisine at Chef Alain Passard’s restaurant L’Arpège. For those looking to take Paris home, we recommend a baking workshop at Le Cordon Bleu! Their café is also a perfect romantic spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch, especially when the ingredients are handpicked from the institute’s roof garden.

7. Fashion Shopping in Paris
Shopping for haute couture in Paris is exactly the right way to enjoy the city. Here world-famous designers and edgy artists brush shoulders with fine jewellery and concept footwear. The Triangle d’Or is where you’ll find the finest; Dior, Chanel, Ferragamo, Dolce et Gabbana, Prada, Gucci, and many, many more. Continue towards the Champs Élysées to shop at the trendy Zara, Sephora and the Louis Vuitton flagship store. And because it is winter, you’ll find the sales are on and it is the perfect time to splurge! Plan a trip in Les soldes d’hiver (winter sales) season between the 10th of January and the 20th of February this year and step out in style!

8. Culinary Tour
Parisians love their food and they also love to share that passion with you. Again, winter ingredients and dishes abound – you’ll find hearty, warming soups and casseroles, confits, eclairs with hot chocolate sauce and a lot of roasts. Guided tours with resident food experts will add sugar, spice and all things nice to a romantic trip around the city. Feel like putting your own culinary skills to the test? Sign up for one of the finest cooking classes Paris has to offer and learn the intricacies of French cuisines with a tour to Montmartre, Le Marais, Latin Quarter and Saint Germain.

9. Theatre experience at Theatre de Paris and Paris Retro Tour
The French capital has more than enough to surprise even the most demanding cinephiles but if you have any appreciation for theatre, we would recommend catching a show at Theatre de Paris. Warm and snug in the theatre, after the film you’ll be in the mood for an open-air voyage under the Parisian winter sun or in the glow of the City of Lights on a retro-style tour in a vintage motorcycle with a sidecar! Designed for those looking for a different sightseeing experience, this authentic guided tour of Paris allows you to (re)discover the city in a romantic and unusual way.

10. Cruise on river Seine
By day or by night, a romantic cruise on the River Seine will bring you the full splendor of the river-banks and monuments of Paris. The Seine might be one of the world’s most scenic urban rivers, flanked by exquisite monuments such as Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe. A cruise is the best way to enjoy the city of romance; sail in the heart of Paris in the most wonderful boat for a circuit in the Seine River, passing through a sluice and in front of the Eiffel Tower with its sparkling lights. Also, don’t forget the bar on board!
