A breathtaking and intimate terrace proposal by the sea that was akin to a fairytale.
Wedding Proposals - Jul 9, 2020
Palaek and Kushal first met in college where both of them, ironically, couldn’t stand each other. However, as time flew by, both bid goodbye to college life and plunged into adulthood by pursuing their own paths in life. But then destiny had other plans, as these two collided once again on social media albeit in a more friendly way. One conversation led to another, and the duo quickly decided to tie the knot in March 2020, but with the COVID – 19 pandemic spreading its branches across the globe, the future was painted in an uncertain hue and unfortunately, their plans had to be changed, giving Palaek mixed feelings about the year ahead. So, in order to cheer up his to-be-bride and the most special person in his life, Kushal quickly rolled up his sleeves and with a helping hand from their respective friends, popped the question to her in a romantic and intimate proposal captured by the very skillful WeddingSutra Favorite – The Photo Lab who encapsulated each dreamy emotion perfectly.
How They Met
Palaek shares, “We first met in college where he was my senior and vice-chairperson of the college festival which I was a part of. In those initial years, we didn’t get along well and also kind of hated each other. But as life progressed, we both pursued our own paths in life, Kushal flew to the States, and I started my post-graduation studies and, later, joined my family business.
However, after five years we reconnected via social media where he messaged in congratulating me on my new job which was followed by friendly banter. Coincidentally, around the same time, I’d started to plan a reunion with my other college friends and invited him over too. But he never turned up for it, and instead, asked me out for some chai. After our ‘chai date’ we kept in touch and became really good friends. One thing led to another and our love blossomed.”
Proposal
Kushal shares, “Initially we were scheduled to get married in March 2020 but the ongoing pandemic derailed our plans and the future became uncertain. Amidst all of this, Palaek’s birthday was right around the corner and it pained me to see that she was having mixed feelings about the year ahead. Keeping this in mind, I thought a romantic proposal would be the perfect gift of certainty, commitment, and security for her. And, since our wedding had been rescheduled indefinitely and it had been quite a while since our Roka, this was a positive step to cement our love further.”
Even though Kushal had taken precautions to keep his plans under wraps, Palaek instinctively knew that something was up when he asked to meet him for a formal dinner he’d organized on the terrace. She shares, “Kushal requested me to wear a red outfit and I was a bit irritated that my green outfit wasn’t cutting it for him. Also, I somehow knew that something fishy was going on since he’d requested me to meet him on the terrace for a formal dinner. Totally confused and curious, I made my way upstairs and the most beautiful scene met my eyes. At that moment, as ‘All of Me’ by John Legend was playing in the background, I knew that he was going to ask me the question.”
When quizzed on how he managed to execute the beautiful setup with the lockdown outside, Kushal shares, “I was extremely lucky that Palaek’s best friend helped me out in this regard. She used WeddingSutra to help me out and put me in touch with the florists, decorators and The Photo Lab who captured mesmerizing shots that simply amazed us. Additionally, my best friend also stepped in, and being a jeweler, he managed to source Palaek’s diamond of choice in the middle of the lockdown and even got it custom made to suit her tastes! Even though we did experience a few hiccups, everything was beautifully done all thanks to our enthusiastic vendors who worked brilliantly with limited resources. Palaek had always wished for a proposal overlooking the sea and while I did get in touch with numerous hotels, it was quite a challenge securing a venue. In the end, I zeroed in on her building terrace with the risk of the rains paying us a visit.”
Describing the proposal, Kushal goes on to share, “I took her by the hand and started walking along the path lined with fairy lights and then went down on one knee. And I remember telling her, ‘I know you thought that this wouldn’t be the best birthday with everything going on around us. But I want to make it the most memorable one for you. Will you marry me?”
And instantly, tears started filling up her eyes as she nodded and said ‘yes!’ Soon enough, I’d slipped a ring on her finger and we couldn’t stop hugging each other. To our surprise, people from the other building’s terraces also started applauding for us! Adding a final flourish was Mother Nature herself, as a vibrant rainbow came out in the sky as soon as we popped champagne and cut the cake. Palaek thought that it was a sign from the gods themselves.”
