A monsoon wedding that was like a Midsummer Night’s Dream

The wedding of Aakshi, the daughter of Lt. General, and Angad, the son of Maj. General (Ret.), was a beautiful union that celebrated the couple’s favorite games, along with a touch of the magical! Planned by WeddingSutra Favorite – Foreign Wedding Planners, the wedding saw delightful details such as a ‘fortune teller’ and a mystical wishing well.

Wedding Planning
Neha Mehrotra of Foreign Wedding Planners says, “The couple shared a fond love for poker and board games, which inspired their playful wedding hashtag “#PocketAces”. Adding a personal touch to the celebrations, the bride even had the Ace playing card intricately woven into her mehndi design. The day before the Anand Karaj ceremony, the skies decided to test our resolve. It rained relentlessly through the day and night, turning the venue into what seemed like a one-feet deep swamp. Despite the challenges, with perseverance and prompt attention, the team worked tirelessly to bring everything together overnight.”

Wedding Functions
Sangeet
For the sangeet the bride had envisioned a whimsical theme inspired by Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, blended with the magical world of Tinker Bell. The entire venue was transformed into an enchanting fairyland filled with cascading drapes, twinkling lights, delicate fairies, playful elves and magical elements. The highlight included florals, floating candles, serpentine tables and even a giant ball gown made entirely with flowers and moss!

An existing waterfall was converted into a mystical wishing well, beautifully adorned with rabbits, mushrooms, winding vines and countless tiny details that reminded one of whispered stories from fairytales. A ‘Fortune Teller’ complete with a magical globe, gypsy-style reading material, sequined linens and even magical ‘potions’ created an air of mystery.

Anand Karaj
For the Anand Karaj, the couple chose the intimate setting of the bride’s home backyard, allowing the ceremony to take place in a deeply personal and meaningful setting. German air-conditioned hangars were used to envision an extension of a living room. All walls were kept transparent to let in the natural beauty and greenery of the garden.

The mandap was thoughtfully transformed into BabaJi-di-Beed, with everything in pastel, just how the family wanted. An adjoining hall became the langar area that was curated on the a ‘English Summer’ theme, complete with pearls that were used to highlight a lot of decor, as the bride is very fond of them. Elegant glass and ceramic elements were incorporated to add a soft, refined charm, while customised book covers inspired by the couple were placed as personalised decor details, bringing a meaningful touch to the space.

Reception
For the Reception, the family wanted an elegant setting worthy of the distinguished guests attending, which included senior Army officials and the Chief of Army Staff. Once again, the rain made its presence felt, and, just a few hours before the event was to begin, the entire setup had to be shifted indoors. With quick coordination and tremendous effort, the makeshift arrangement was completed within hours, ensuring the evening unfolded seamlessly.

What began as a wedding challenged by the monsoon ultimately became a celebration of resilience, teamwork and love, a truly memorable affair.
