A progressive wedding that broke the mould as the bride paid homage to the women who’ve been the backbone of her success

A wedding is said to be a blank canvas where couples can express who they truly are without hindrance. But, there are times when archaic rituals can get the better of us. For bride Apurva Chandwadkar and her groom Jitesh Nayak – their union paved the way for progressive thoughts, and a new perspective while expressing their new-age beliefs. WeddingSutra Favorite – SANJ Events & Entertainment was at the forefront of it all as they looked into every crucial detail and ensured the couple’s vision transformed into reality.

Apurva, a professional product designer and storyteller was keen on personalising her wedding to fit her vision exactly. Niti and Eeshan from SANJ Events & Entertainment tells us about the driving force behind the bride’s dream wedding, “Growing up as the daughter of a single mother, Apurva had always been deeply aware of the strength and power of women. Her mother, a remarkable woman who raised Apurva on her own, instilled in Apurva the values of independence, resilience, and self-reliance. These values, along with her mother’s unwavering support and wisdom, shaped Apurva into the person she is today, and she wanted to honour her mother’s influence on her wedding day. It was crucial to her that the ceremony reflects the significance of women in her life.”

The wedding was designed to stray from mainstream traditions, focusing instead on unique and meaningful elements. The location was carefully chosen, featuring a varmala ceremony set against an incredible sea backdrop, with the wedding rituals taking place inside a temple under a massive Banyan tree. The temple setup in particular elevated the mood of the wedding to a new level. And while being hosted in Mumbai, one could scarcely feel the energetic bustle of the city while enjoying the serenity of their surroundings. Here are the highlights of this unique wedding that will warm your hearts:

Celebrating the strength of women with a Female Priest conducting the wedding ceremony
Given Apurva’s history and everything that had led her to this moment of love – Apurva and Jitesh decided to have the wedding officiated by a female priest. Breaking patriarchal stereotypes – this decision was a tribute to the many strong women who had guided and supported her throughout her life and a celebration of the power and grace they embody. The presence of a female panditji was not just a symbolic gesture; it was a heartfelt acknowledgement of the role women had played in shaping the couple’s journey.

Embracing simplicity and spiritual aspects of marriage
Jitesh and Apurva chose the Dnyanprabodhini wedding style for their ceremony, which resonated deeply with them. This style of wedding is known for its emphasis on simplicity, wisdom, and the spiritual significance of marriage. It allowed them to truly understand the impact of their decision to marry, not just on themselves but on their families and community. The ceremony was filled with profound moments that highlighted the importance of love, unity, and mutual respect.

A colorful Antarpat imprinted with blessings
One of the most touching aspects of the ceremony was the tradition of giving blessings with raised hands. This simple yet powerful gesture symbolized the outpouring of love and support from their family and friends. They honored these blessings by incorporating them into their Antarpat. The Antarpat, a sacred cloth held between the bride and groom during the ceremony, symbolizes the joining of two lives. Apurva wanted the handprints of each guest on the Antarpat used for their wedding ritual. Every guest was invited to paint their hands and print those impressions on the cloth. By including the blessings within it, they wove the love and good wishes of their loved ones into the very fabric of their union.
