A ‘Two States’ wedding that celebrated a UK-based couple’s favorite travel spots at a serene beach in India
Wedding Planning - Nov 11, 2025
The Tamil warmth of Coimbatore met the vibrant energy of a Sikh Punjabi family from Hull, UK, in the gentle sandy beaches of Mahabalipuram. Pavithra and Aneil’s “Two States” wedding, executed perfectly by WeddingSutra Favorite – Oh Yes Events, brought together cultural heritage, modern sophistication and the heart of two doctors who realised their goal was to live a life based on love, faith, and shared exploration.

How They Met
Pavithra and Aniel met five years ago during the pandemic, in the halls of Leeds, where she was studying for her medical finals and he was working at the hospital. Online chats soon turned into never-ending coffees, hikes, and shared aspirations. Leaping across the countries for long-distance stints, night shifts, and moves between Manchester and Hull, their connection strengthened. “We have travelled to 11 countries together,” Pavi says. “From the beaches of Thailand to the castles of Greece, we have always viewed the world as something for us to discover together.”

Wedding Planning
Though both Pavi and Aniel were brought up in the UK, they come from different cultures. And they wanted the wedding to represent who they are today: global in outlook, traditional at heart.
Saravanan Saran of Oh Yes Events says, “This wedding was about balance: of cultures and energy and calm, of personal joy and grand celebration. When two traditions come together like that, our intention is not to blend everything. It’s about letting them dance. Pavi and Aneil’s wedding was a dance of harmony, respect, joy.”
Each event was a universe all its own, a testament to the couple’s dual heritages and the planner’s aptitude for harnessing emotion through design.

Wedding Functions
Haldi & Mehndi: Festival of Colors
The haldi and mehendi ceremonies started with a burst of sunshine. The venue became a riot of blue, yellow, orange, pink, and red, literally an explosion of colours that encapsulates the soul of all things Indian. The entrance was adorned with mirror signage, golden leaves, and urns of floating flowers. A bohemian seating nook with colorful throw pillows and woven textures became an Insta-friendly photo spot.
Sangeet: Rocking the Gold Dust and Metal Mist
The setting sun brought in a new mood. The Sangeet glistened in shades of black, copper, brown, and gold, portraying a dreamy, whimsical glamour!
A big, dreamy entrance arch opened to a chandelier-lit room, reverberating with laughter under metal drapes and mirrors. The night vibrated, with speeches, dance-offs, and poignant moments.
Sikh Wedding
The Sikh Anand Karaj was a ceremony of stillness and sanctity, where tradition met the warmth of a destination celebration. Bathed in soft light, the serene setting radiated peace as the couple walked the four laavaan surrounded by loved ones. Gentle floral arrangements, muted gold accents, and the soulful cadence of kirtan filled the air, creating an ambience that felt timeless.

The Wedding: Rooted in Tradition
The South Indian Hindu nuptials celebrated Pavi’s Tamil roots. The simplicity and sanctity of the mandap were celebrated with natural textures, ivory shades, and temple florals. Priests chanted mantras as the sea swayed in the background, almost as if witnessing this divine moment.

Reception: A Golden ‘Happy Ending’ in Gold & Bloom
The wedding was followed by an evening of high style and revelry. The reception details incorporated shades of taupe, gold, copper, and black with florals and ambient lighting.
There was a statement stage flanked by flowers at its centre, along with a stylish photo booth and a bar offering signature cocktails that drew from the couple’s favorite travel spots.
