Aakanksha and Mikhail’s Platinum Love Story

An enduring bond of a decade that has stood the test of time, Aakanksha and Mikhail have been each other’s pillars of strength through it all, emerging stronger in love.
Mumbai-based advertising professionals Aakanksha and Mikhail first cross paths at work, developing a professional camaraderie that blossomed into an enduring friendship. Aakanksha shares, “We have always been strongly driven by our ambitions, and this is something we always connected on, besides of course our professional interests and challenges. However, it was after 4 years of being best friends that we took the next step, when I started planning to shift abroad. This nudged both me and Mikhail to confront our true feelings. We realized we made each other better, and the bond we shared was rare, and something worth holding on to. Once that realization hit, there was no looking back. The compatibility that we had nurtured as friends laid the foundation for everything to come, from our relationship to our personal and professional growth.” The power couple today head separate advertising agencies.
After a decade of being partners in friendship and love, they decided to become partners for life and build their futures together! So, when their dream wedding in Phuket got derailed by the COVID – 19 pandemic a mere fortnight before the big day, rather than lamenting the loss, they rallied for the chance to celebrate their love! Looking back upon the experience, Aakanksha shares, “We were set to wed on March 1st, 2020, and got the news on Valentine’s Day! After a year’s worth of meticulous planning, I was understandably upset by this stroke of bad luck at the last moment! In that moment where I found myself floundering, Mikhail was my rock. He came home with flowers, took me out to dinner, and helped me clear my head. This simple yet thoughtful gesture was exactly what we need to reassess our priorities. His calm reassurance reminded me of what we already knew that our wedding was first and foremost about starting our lives together, and at the end of the day, that is all that mattered”.
Emboldened by the love and support of their family members who all stepped up to make the wedding happen, the couple then relocated their festivities in a matter of just two weeks. Mikhail shared, “Planning a wedding is complex enough and when you add cultural differences, societal expectations, and communication gaps into the mix, it can really test your commitment. I was constantly amazed by how Aakanksha was trying to strike a delicate balance between what we wanted, the dreams of our families and expectations, and all the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic. She had to make some really tough calls to accommodate my family but I am really grateful for her unflinching belief in our relationship.”
Like everything else, the experience was riddled with its fair share of challenges. Aakanksha shares, “It wasn’t all smooth sailing throughout. Some of the moments we faced definitely tested our relationship. It was Mikhail’s clear perspective that helped me focus on the brass tacks of what needed to be done. His straightforward nature helped us plan efficiently; ensure our loved ones attended and enjoyed in a safe manner, and that our ceremonies were carried out in the best way possible. And while he always helped us keep sight of the big picture, he also cared for the dreams that I, as a bride, had nurtured for the wedding and helped me make them come true! A wedding is supposed to be the start of a wonderful new chapter, a celebration of love and family over all else, and that realization put everything in focus. Mikhail’s faith in our relationship gave me confidence that the lows and highs didn’t matter anymore, as long as we were in it together. Our wedding turned out to be the best experience of our lives, and we wouldn’t want to change even a single moment of it!”
The trials they faced and how smoothly they handled it together gave Aakanksha and Mikhail a glimpse at how they could communicate, keep each other grounded, and work in tandem to get through whatever may come their way in life. As they began their marriage with the start of the lockdown, having each other by their side gave them comfort and assurance for the future. Aakanksha shares, “The experience really showed us how we could help each other through our uncertainties to weather any storm together. From learning all we could about each other to managing our work from home and even adopting two dogs, every moment of our marriage so far has been a blessing and only brought us closer together.”
