Akanksha and Akhil’s Platinum Love Story

From a charming college meet-cute to blazing a trail as a power couple, Akanksha Pandey and Akhil Sharma’s journey is one of perseverance, growth and love! The couple first crossed paths while pursuing their MBAs. Akanksha shares, “It was serendipitous that in a class of so many people, I would find my future husband in the student who had the roll number after me. Always grouped together for assignments, we spent more and more time together, eventually becoming fast friends. There was never a dramatic realization or proclamation of love with us, and we are grateful for that. In fact, it was because neither of us had strong feelings or crushes in the beginning that we could really get to know each other without ever feeling the need to impress one another. When we started dating in our second year, we went into our relationship with a wholesome and honest view of our bond, which needless to say is the reason it has endured the test of time”.
Their love only strengthened with time and experiences. From their shared experience of living abroad the first time, when they worked in Dubai, to making empowered decisions of following their passions, they were there for each other in a million little meaningful ways. Akhil shares, “The idea of getting to stay abroad with your partner sounds romantic by any standard, but working a new job in a new place isn’t easy, with busy schedules and hardships to overcome every day. I believe our time together in Dubai truly laid the foundation of our partnership, because living alone in a foreign land, we became each other’s family away from family. We had new experiences together, embraced every challenge, had tons of fun and comforted each other in times of need. Every day, good or bad, was made better by Akanksha’s presence!
Akanksha and Akhil’s love goes beyond fancy words or grand gestures. It was built by the understanding of each other’s every need, every dream, and its strength has prevailed time and again. Over the next few years they both shifted back to India, and as Akhil focused on setting up his own Tech venture, Akanksha explored a career in holistic wellness parallel to her corporate career. She shares, “While we both aspired to success, our motivations differed, and this helped us give each other different perspectives while making important decisions. I had a flourishing corporate job at LinkedIn, which I did not want to leave. It was my father’s and sister’s ill-health that drove me to explore alternative medicine, so taking the step of becoming a wellness coach stemmed from a very personal place for me. Akhil witnessed the family difficulties that led me to get trained and certified in health sciences. And while he appreciated the radical change they brought in my life, he pushed me to do something with it to help improve other people’s lives as well. He helped me see the business opportunity I had in front and encouraged me to start my own venture, even as he worked non-stop to start his own! Akhil on the other hand shares, “When I shared my vision of opening my own tech firm with Akanksha, she knew it was a big shift from my marketing job, and could sense the apprehensions that come with starting something new. She helped me rise above it all and realize that it was still the early phase of my career and the best time to make a bold change. She encouraged me to take the leap of faith, and her faith in me strengthened my faith in myself”.
In a world where people long for fairy tale romances and insta-worthy gestures, Akanksha and Akhil’s story of friendship and support, of being each other’s voice of reason and source of strength is a much needed reminder of what true love looks like.
