Alyssa and Abedin’s Platinum Day Of Love
Love Actually, Precious Platinum - Dec 20, 2019
Our initiative ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring engaged couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates the beautiful people in love, as they start their lives together, because real love can only begin, never end. Over coffee, a makeover and a photoshoot we get to-be-weds to tell us how they met, show us their platinum love bands and talk about their day of love.
Some love stories seem written in the stars. A chance connection brought two innovative entrepreneurs together. Strong and independent, each creating new precedents in their respective industries, Alyssa Chesson and Abedin Sham found true love through their passion for work and moved across borders to be together.
Abedin, owner of the prestigious boutique hotel chain Abode, was trying to do a photo series for a ‘Young Entrepreneurs’ campaign in February 2018 at his hotel in Colaba, Mumbai. He says, “I wanted like-minded people who were upping the ante with their offerings, for which my cousin suggested Alyssa’s name.” Alyssa, an established pastry chef, had already made a name for herself amongst discerning clientele who loved Bono, her boutique ice-cream brand. They got in touch and the conversation flew between them. Though Abedin was travelling at the time between Dubai and Sri Lanka, they remained in constant touch via Whatsapp.
Despite their obvious chemistry, their first meeting didn’t happen immediately because of their busy schedules. But when it did happen, it was clear that it was meant to be right from the start. Alyssa remembers their first meeting, “The next month after we started talking, he was in Bombay for a couple of days and had invited me over for a jazz night at his hotel. We bonded over our common love for travelling, fitness, animals and food – especially steak! We realised we were two peas in a pod, just waiting to meet each other.”
When asked upon why did they put in so much effort to make things work at their end, Abedin shares, “I love how nurturing she is as a partner. She puts me first and inspires me to bring that same sense of selflessness to our relationship.” Alyssa chimes in, “I like that he has the ability to get into a conversation with anyone and everyone. He’s blessed with an amazing sense of humour and has an innate kindness towards people and animals.”
Entering a long-distance relationship in the early stages is difficult as you don’t have your partner around to gauge where the relationship is heading. But, on the other hand, the long-distance relationship proved a boon for Alyssa and Abedin as they had to talk through everything instead of brushing it under the carpet. Even though so, Abedin knew that he couldn’t stay away from Alyssa for much longer, and he decided to move back to Mumbai to take the plunge.
Juggling between their personal and professional lives, they managed to make their relationship official in June 2018. Only three months into dating, the duo took a business trip to Sri Lanka where Abedin was working on a new project. Alyssa blushes at the memory, “Abedin and my family are such good actors. They convinced me that nothing was going to happen on the trip when all of them knew about the secret proposal.”
“He told me we were meeting his colleagues for dinner,” Alyssa says smiling, “and we made a pit stop at a villa where we went in to take a few wall references for his hotel.” Except, the villa was decorated with rose petals and candles! The bride-to-be was radiant as she recalled what happened next, “Abedin went down on one knee, a ring in his hand, music playing in the background, a cake and champagne bottles to celebrate. The only thing more magical about the proposal was the thought of getting married to him that gave me goosebumps!”
Abedin grins and adds, “Even though I often nag Alyssa about her constant need to take photographs every time we go out, I knew this day was special, it had to be caught in pictures. So, I hired a photographer to take candid shots of her reaction to my proposal.”
Despite the chance meeting, the busy schedules, and the long-distance part of their relationship, Abedin and Alyssa knew that what they had was something special. A love like theirs is hard to come by. It’s only natural to want to mark it with something just as rare – Platinum Love Bands were the perfect fit. Finding a true connection just as rare as Platinum is the only way couples with a similar bond like this can celebrate their true love for each other.
Alyssa and Abedin who all set to get married in January, 2020 chose Mpire Weddings to make their dream wedding a reality. The couple celebrated their ‘platinum day of love’ at his hotel, Abode, where their paths met for the first time. The magnificent platinum love bands and fresh and dewy makeup with dreamy curls for Alyssa, done by the team of Makeup by MRN, added to the splendour of the occasion. The Recall Pictures team captured the moments in elegant frames while the team of Dev Purbiya took spectacular images of the Platinum Guild Jewellery’s exquisite collection.
