Ami and Nitin’s Platinum Love Story

Seattle based professionals Ami Pandya and Nitin Zacharias first crossed paths in 2010 while studying for GMAT in the same preparatory centre. What started with a serendipitous meeting (as Nitin calls it), casual banter and study groups soon transformed into a wholesome friendship that laid the foundation for everything that came their way. From going on to running a start-up together to pursuing their MBAs and chasing their dreams, they have resolutely remained each other’s pillars of support, constantly pushing each other to accomplish more.
Looking back upon their decade of love and togetherness, Ami shares, “Our bond was driven by professional camaraderie and an innate appreciation and respect of each other’s passion from the get go. While we loved each other’s company and shared a host of interests, we were most attracted to each other’s minds and curious natures.”
With an ambitious outlook, the couple soon launched an EdTech startup together, along with a third partner. Their differing yet complementing personalities and professional skills perfectly balanced each other, helping them learn from the other’s best qualities. Nitin shares, “I am always blown away by how much heart Ami pours into every project she undertakes. Whether it is as big as a seemingly impossible dream or as small as planning an outing, she will never stop till she achieves her goal. It is sheer strength of will, and her fortitude and resilience inspire me to do better!” Ami on the other hand is always in awe of his humility. She shares, “He is a very knowledgeable person, and yet incredibly humble and mindful in his wisdom. I admire his “know more, talk less” philosophy to life and always try to apply it to my life as well.” At every step along the way, they helped each other grow as individuals, while also growing their business and professional repertoire. And even though they eventually sold the business to pursue their MBAs in the US, the experience taught them that when they were together, nothing was unachievable.
While building towards professional success together, side by side, has always been a defining aspect of their relationship, it was unconditional love and relentless support that strengthened the core of their decade-long journey. Ami shares, “Nitin was never just my boyfriend or business partner. He was the anchor of every facet of my life, be it education, work or family. He loved and accepted me for who I am through thick and thin. It was never dramatic declarations of love or bold gestures, but rather a million little ways we were there for each other, that organically wove our lives together. It was with this sense of security in our bond that we pursued our dreams over the years, regardless of where they took us.”
Although inspiring, their journey wasn’t an easy one. Their career paths, while rewarding, took them far away from each other for the next few years as they pursued their MBAs and then jobs in different parts of the US. The faith they had in their love and each other’s success overcame any physical distance. From long bus journey trips to planning weekly virtual movie nights, they found their own unique traditions to nurture their relationship, while striking the right balance of giving each other personal space. Ami shares, “We never resented the time we spent apart, and always encouraged each other to learn, enjoy and make the most of the opportunities that came our way. Only when we motivated each other to grow and become well rounded individuals could we be our best, most radiant selves in our relationship. Even after college, when my decision of choosing a job in a faraway state over one that allowed me to be with Nitin was met with a lot of skepticism from others, Nitin never faltered. He trusted and empowered me to make the right decision, knowing that every step was slowly paving the path for us to be together. And what do you know, a few years down the road, Nitin got a job in his dream company and shifted to my city.”
After 10 years of friendship, love, tough decisions and everything in between, Ami and Nitin tied the knot in India before returning to Seattle. Today, they work at a Senior Management level at the top tier Tech firms of Amazon and Microsoft, both dominating in their careers, side by side. While it’s easy to fall in love, it takes a rare love to push each other towards their very best, to #RiseInLove.
