An art session turned into a wedding proposal! Find out how she asked him to marry her!

Shikhani Shah, a criminal lawyer, and Sumeet Engineer crossed paths through an aunt who’d set them up, and little did they know that a regular arranged marriage meeting would turn into a life-altering event! A firm believer that a relationship is an equal partnership between two individuals, Shikhani decided to take charge on the proposal front and popped the question to her beau in an impromptu art session where both of them celebrated their creative spirit and love. Keen on capturing every moment of this surprise proposal, the to-be bride roped in WeddingSutra Favorite – Shutterup Photography and Films who with their expertise racked up a treasure trove of memories for them.

How They Met
Sumeet shares, “We met through an arranged marriage set up eight months ago. A brief conversation later, we were convinced that there was something special brewing between us and we hit it off immediately. Soon, casual drives were replaced with long dinner dates as we got further acquainted. The way we clicked was so seamless, like two pieces of a puzzle! In a matter of two months we knew that this was meant to be, and then there was no looking back as we informed our families about our decision!”

Proposal
Sumeet says, “The lockdown did hamper our initial courtship period but we did the best we could, and being a food blogger, Shikhani easily paved her way to my heart with her expert cooking skills.

On the 21st of August we completed six months, and to celebrate it she suggested that we go for an art studio painting session. Little did I know that she was all geared up to propose! The moment I entered, I was greeted with a stunning setup depicting pictures of our journey adorning the walls, and as we let our creativity run free by painting a romantic sunset scene that featured a couple, Shikhani asked me to marry her. Of course, I said ‘yes!’ She even expressed how she felt about me through a touching letter. She had taken care of everything right from the personalized decor to the wine for raising a toast to us. It was a unique and surreal experience. And when I conveyed my surprise to her she just said, “Why does the man always have to propose? I knew just then that I had made the right choice!”

Shikhani shares her take, “I never knew that someone could become so important to me in such a short span of time. But then again, love works in mysterious ways! The idea for the proposal struck me out of the blue and I wondered why shouldn’t girls take the first step and propose? Why are men always expected to pop the question? I am a firm believer that a relationship is an equal partnership. As for the proposal concept, I was keen on orchestrating an intimate setup that involved a plethora of colors. Hence, I decided to ask him the question at an impromptu art session that celebrated our six-month anniversary. Additionally, this would also mark a new phase in our journey and signify the happiness that awaited us, what better than a rainbow of bright colors through which to express our love. Overall it was one of the most magical moments of our lives and I’m so glad that I took this step even as I witnessed the look of surprise on Sumeet’s face! ”
