Bindita and Wanchoo’s Platinum Love Story

Bindita Baksi and Ananya Wanchoo first met when they connected on a phone call where she was being interviewed for a possible role in Wanchoo’s organisation. Once the formal interview was over, they realized that they both went to the same college and bonded over reminiscing their university days. Within a week, Bindita accepted a job offer from Wanchoo’s manager and made her way from London to Dubai to work with Wanchoo, where love bloomed between them. Bindita shares, “With Wanchoo, the first conversation itself was so easy! We spoke on the phone and even though we’d never seen each other before and had no mutual friends, we struck up a great camaraderie.”
Wanchoo shares, “While I’ve called Dubai ‘home’ for the past few years, it truly felt like home when my relationship with Bindita flourished. With her, I felt safe enough to be vulnerable. She’s there to patiently listen, advise and even give me the space I need to gather my thoughts.” Bindita adds, “To be honest, as individuals we’re quite different and imperfect in our ways but we’ve found this remarkable connection. While I can be a worrier at times and tend to focus a lot on things that could go wrong, Wanchoo’s gaze remains firmly on the silver lining, and his positivity lifts my spirits. Together we are quite a team, and as we take turns at building each other up, it strengthens the love we share.”
Having a tremendous amount of faith in their relationship, Bindita and Wanchoo took the decision of buying a house together early on in their relationship. Despite the tough job market and stretched finances, they were intent on making their dream of owning a home a reality. Wanchoo shares, “Ever since I started working in Dubai, I’d always toyed with the idea of buying a home. However, it wasn’t a dream that I sincerely pursued. But things changed when Bindita entered my life. We wanted to build a home together, a place where we could nourish our family and our bond. And, this became a shared dream of ours.” Bindita goes on to share, “There was nothing on paper that bound us together but I didn’t feel a moment’s hesitation in buying a home with Wanchoo as our relationship empowered us with a strong sense of trust and friendship. Rather than ask ‘why’, all our questions started with ‘when’ and ‘where’ as we started our search. We were aligned that the love we share will last a lifetime. After months of rigorous scouting, we came across the house we both loved. But, the price tag was a stretch for us. Uneasy about the situation and the risk factors, my natural reaction was to think of all the things that could go wrong. But Wanchoo calmly reasoned with me and reminded me why we’d made the decision to buy a home in the first place, that it wasn’t just an investment but a symbol of the faith we had in our relationship and our happy place where we could build a future together.”
Self-made and fiercely independent, Wanchoo pitched in all his life savings as a downpayment for the home – a decision spurred by the immense faith he has in their relationship. He shares, “After making the downpayment, I had nothing in terms of savings. I had absolutely no backup and for a person like me who’s been the primary breadwinner of my family, it was a vulnerable position to be in. And, if it weren’t for Bindita and the unshakeable sense of trust I have in her and her abilities, I wouldn’t have been able to do this. I remember telling her about this and she said, ‘Nothing is yours or mine. It’s ours.’ And for us, this applies to everything. Our fears, insecurities, ambitions, wins and fails.”
