Bridal Diaries at InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort
Destination Weddings - Jan 11, 2017
The Bridal Diaries is our newest editorial series in which we curate the absolute latest bridal trends, destination wedding venues and luxury experiences for to-be-weds.
In this, our first dispatch, we explore the stunning expanses of the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort. With the beach as backdrop, we report from the newest, uber luxe hotspot where stylish hospitality meets contemporary comfort in the temple town, Mahabalipuram.
Sitting on the sublime ocean-lapped stretch of the East Coast Road, the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort is perfect for a destination wedding. A breath away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mahabalipuram, this world-class resort exudes exotic luxury in the renascent Coromandel style, architectural synchrony, huge pillared hallways and sweeping corridors.
Team WeddingSutra discovered a range of bespoke venues and stylish experiences at the resort. We have put together a visual feast of an inspirational storyboard to bring to life visions of a wedding at the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram.
An al-fresco mehendi at the Gatsby Lounge, InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram
The mehendi is one of the most fun ceremonies at an Indian wedding. The resort offers one of its best spaces – the alfresco area of the Gatsby Lounge – to host a party in a high-walled, minimalist stone structure, fringed with fragrant frangipani trees and decadent loungers lazing under the sky.
Perfect for an intimate mehndi, the décor includes more treats for the senses – a vibrant wall draped with sweet jasmine and marigold and traditional gold bells chiming in the soft breeze.
Watch the bride twirl in a gorgeous lehenga by Payal Singhal while the groom is a firecracker in a red kurta and bandhgala by Anita Dongre. The bride’s boho beach waves went beautifully with the uncut polki jewellery by Velvetcase that included a matching oversized maangtikka.

Sangeet at the Lily Pond, InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort
There’s perhaps nothing as important as a proper performance stage at an Indian Sangeet and the InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort offers one built over a water body! Imagine magical song and dance, surrounded by a gorgeous lake, with lotuses floating at the hotel’s Lily Pond where a raised podium is created for evening wedding events.
The peach décor was perfectly offset by the blue pond and greys of the architecture. The hotel arranged for the bride to make an entry under a floral chaadar. She wore a stunning teal lehenga by Neeta Lulla and Velvetcase jewellery with traditional peacock motifs, kundan work with pearls and golden beads.

Intimate Wedding Pheras at InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort
Take advantage of the resorts generous offerings of space that would work beautifully for an intimate Indian wedding in this heritage temple town. A wonderful walkway begins from the resort’s massive lobby and builds anticipation as it winds its way to the private beach. Here, a floral frame in hutes of white and pink made a stunning backdrop for the couple as they entered the beach.
The bride donned an unconventional phera look with a powder blue lehenga paired with a peach choli and an uncut set by Jaipur Gems. The groom chose an understated and stylish beige kurta and bandhgala by Anita Dongre.

Traditional Pheras at InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort
For anyone hoping their unique wedding finds the unique location, this is the place for that dream beach wedding with all the bells and whistles.
The couple walked down the aisle to the beach-front mandap, all drapes and white orchids. The classic, subtle styling is what the hotel prides itself on.
The bride was resplendent in a beige and maroon lehenga by Shyamal and Bhumika as she walked hand in hand with the groom dressed in an understated maroon sherwani also by Shyamal and Bhumika. The bride chose a polki set by Velvetcase studded with red and green enamel perfect for an intimate celebration.

Cocktail at Gatsby Lounge, InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort
Inspired by the ‘Roaring Twenties’ in America, the Gatsby Lounge offers you the chance to throw a cocktail party featuring a massive bar, loungers and a separate section for smaller parties or the VIP crowd.
The couple clinked glasses to their new beginnings here as the mellow, sophisticated ambience highlighted their dramatic ensembles. The bride wore a fairytale lavender gown by Dolly J from AZA with crystal embellishments and a diamond set by Kirtilals. The groom was cocktail ready in a dapper blue suit by SS HOMME.
