Drashti and Anuj’s Platinum Love Story

Nothing compares to the strength of the love that blooms from friendship. Mumbai-based Drashti and Anuj’s decade-long journey both as individuals and a couple is a testament to the friendship that cradles their love and unshakable bond. Chartered Accountants by profession Drashti Thakrar, and Anuj Gangwal crossed paths while working for the same firm, and hit it off immediately. Their professional interactions soon took on a personal nature as they spent more time together and became close friends and confidants. Anuj was the one Drashti reached out to for everything, be it work issues, or relationship advice, and Drashti became Anuj’s go-to person as well. They came to intrinsically care for each other, which made their transition from being friends to being partners feel like the most natural, comfortable thing in the world. As they both grew together, helping each other face the trials of life and evolve, they continued to have each other’s back and stayed friends through it all!
Drashti shares, “When I look back upon the last 10 years, I can easily say that so many of the good things I experienced and achieved have been because of the support Anuj has given me, and the confidence he inspires in me for my abilities. In the early days of our courtship, I was preparing for my CA exams and I realized I suffer from intense anxiety, which I felt the most when I was alone. It was quite debilitating at that time but I realized it helped to have someone around me all day, which I could not expect from my friends and family since everyone had busy lives. I was struggling, and without asking for explanations or offering unsolicited advice, or dismissing my issue as many people do, Anuj showed up for me every single day, so I could be comforted by his presence and focus on studying. Even though he sat in a different room and worked remotely, he checked in throughout the day, in case I needed something. His kind gestures made me realize he accepted me for who I was without judgment, and that I could always count on him”.
She adds, “Anuj is not just my support system, he is also my biggest cheerleader, always pushing me to chase my dreams. I had always loved art, a passion that got lost in the quest of building a career. It was Anuj who re-ignited the artist in me again, reminding me to nurture my talent and hobbies, even buying me supplies so I would be inspired to take it up again. That simple nudge to pursue what was an interest turned into a charitable venture, where I use the funds from my sales to promote education for underprivileged girls and empower marginalized women. With his help, I even started a campaign during the pandemic called “Pause for a Cause”, helping provide meals for migrant workers and their families with proceeds from my artwork sales. He helps take care of pricing and promotions while I focus on creating art. To have a successful relationship and a career is one thing, but to be with someone who accepts your flaws while bringing out the best in you is a dream come true.”
A strong camaraderie has always been the cornerstone of their relationship. And while Drashti credits Anuj with being her rock, she in turn has helped him step out of his comfort zone and shoot for the stars. Anuj remarks, “I love to be a part of everything Drashti tries, but personally I have always been hesitant to explore new things. Her zest for life has inspired me to step out of the box and enrich my life with new experiences. From learning French to pottery and even about social entrepreneurship in India, I would have missed out on so much had it not been for Drashti. Even when I expressed my lifelong dream of going to the US to pursue a business course, it was Drashti’s unshaken support that spurred me to apply. As a newlywed, talking to your partner about moving continents alone and in effect making your relationship into a long-distance relationship can never be easy. Drashti, however, not only encouraged me, but also helped me with the application process. She placed my happiness above all else and helped me deal with the self-doubts I had while making this life-changing decision. Her calm confidence in our relationship reaffirmed my faith that no matter where life takes us, we would always make it work. ”
Embracing each other through the challenges and celebrating each other’s triumphs is what Drashti and Anuj’s love is all about. From helping each other in tough times to inspiring each other to become better, they have been friends through it all.
