East meets West in Pune
Wedding Photography & Films - May 15, 2012
Lavin from Hong Kong & Roma from Canada tied the knot in Pune, where their extended families live. The wedding was an interesting blend of two cultures- Sikh & Sindhi. The functions at the grand, fun-filled celebration included the Engagement & Welcome Dinner, the Mehndi & Sangeet, the Pool Party and the Wedding & Reception. Roma is a Punjabi, brought up in Brampton, Canada, and she met Lavin in Hong Kong where she was studying for a degree in International Business. Lavin was brought up in Hong Kong and he later studied in Australia. Their civil wedding was held in Hong Kong after which the traditional festivities were in Pune.
The Themes
Engagement- Dreamy, with the crescent moon as centrestage decor. The lighting was done in shades of blue, heavenly white flowers were all over, the couple’s logo ‘LM’ being the highlight. The couple made a grand entry in a beautifully decorated carriage to a grand Disney musical. Roma wore an English pink feather gown, and Lavin wore a Tuxedo.
Sangeet- An ancient Moghul theme though the colors for the decor were Moroccan- turquoise, magenta and bright greens. The bride and groom sat on a royal peacock throne. There was a photo booth, so guests could take pictures which could be printed on the spot as a souvenir with the background picture and wedding date.
Wedding- A Gurudwara ambience was re-created in the ground floor of the hotel, with white and gold colors as the theme.
Reception- Beautiful frames were placed on all the walls, the theme being ‘Walk down memory lane’, with childhood photos of the bride and groom, and photographs of both families.
On the last day day of the celebration it was the bride’s heartfelt wish to arrange a sumptuous dinner for underprivileged orphan kids. So a group went to a home, to spend time with 300 kids, and arrange a fun party with lots of food.
Bride’s Diary
The most fun celebration was the pool party- it was a very relaxing afternoon much-needed after all the late night partying. Best of all, its the time when we can all be relaxed and dress as we’d like to.
Most of our guests were hugely impressed that I planned a long-distance wedding without the help of Wedding Planners. They also loved our pre-wedding video ‘Jab we Met’- it was shot over 3 days and the output, thanks to our extremely skilled and talented videographers was amazing.
Before I visited India, I did most of my research online- on websites like WeddingSutra. I made a note of as many details, so decision-making would be easier when I come here. The time spent researching earlier, really helped when I discussed ideas with vendors and designers. It also helped me figure out how much I should budget for what.
My experience with Neeta Lulla was great, but one other designer was disappointing, I received the outfit, much after the promised date, just before the wedding. My advice to brides- try to take an input from a Real Bride before you pay an advance.
