Emmaline and Darpan’s Platinum Love Story

Theirs is a story of love conquering all. Emmaline, a Senior HR Manager for Dream11, and Darpan, Country Head – India at MTALX, crossed paths nine years ago. Emmaline worked at Edelweiss as an HR Professional, where Darpan was a charming new employee. Despite being older both in age and in the company, Emmaline was drawn to Darpan’s humility and compassion for helping people around him.
She shares, “Eschewing his thriving family business in Oman, Darpan had set out to make a name for himself on his own merits. Highly ambitious as a person, while he achieves everything he set his mind to, he also believes in lifting others, whether it is lending a helping hand to a colleague, kind words to those reporting to him, or even putting an office boy through college. His work ethic inspired me to aim higher, and his kind heart made me want to envision a future with him and strive to be a better person myself.”
She continues, “Our path to being together wasn’t a breeze, since our age difference sparked difficult conversations in our families, but that only made our bond stronger. From getting his folks on board to navigating other personal and family priorities, getting there took a few years, but our journey taught us how to function as a unit and lean on each other for comfort, strength, and motivation. When things seemed bleak, he was my rock, and when I lacked the courage to try new things, he was the one who pushed me! After 7 years of being stuck in a safety net at my old job, it was his conviction in my skills that helped me step out of my comfort zone and attempt to apply for a job I could only dream of, and lo and behold – I got it! Our happily ever after was a long time coming and felt like spring after a long winter, but his love felt like a warm hug through all that cold, and made every step of that journey worth it!”
Darpan on the other hand discovered true acceptance in the form of Emmaline. Embracing the fun alongside the seriousness, she saw and loved him for who he was, which one can argue is the foundation of any healthy, long-lasting relationship. He reflects, “The goofy, candid person that I am, I felt like I could be myself with utter comfort around her from day one, an equation that has remained unchanged through the years. In her, I found a friend long before I found a partner, someone I could tease and joke around with just as easily as I could rely on completely through the tough times.”
He carries on, “A defining moment in our relationship came when, faced with some trying times in my family, I gave her an out to do what was in her best interests. It was not an easy thing for me to do, but I assured her I would respect her wishes. In her infinite wisdom, she asked me ‘Would you expect me to leave had we already been married?’ The love and unconditional support she showed me then really cemented our bond. Not only did she take the situation in her stride, but she also became a rock for me and everyone in my family, and has been ever since. Whether it’s being the person to lift my spirits through career hiccups, the one to break through to my family when I can’t, or even one to smile through her pain to not worry her loved ones, she is an eternal source of strength and warmth.”
