Eschewing grandeur, this couple chose to execute a joyful, close-knit lockdown wedding
Wedding Planning - Jul 2, 2020
Riti and Amrit’s love story started with a fateful right swipe which led them to meet up and discover that they had more in common than what they’d initially thought. After a whirlwind romance, the duo decided to tie the knot, but as the COVID-19 pandemic spread its branches across the globe, both of them had to face the dilemma of having their well-laid plans scattered into chaos. But, with sheer determination, love, and ingenuity, they let go of their dreams of having a grand Punjabi wedding, and instead, focused on celebrating their love with a cozy, close-knit wedding ceremony held in Riti’s living room at New Friends Colony, Delhi. Captured by WeddingSutra Favorite – Dipak Studios who with their exceptional skill behind the lens gave the couple a treasure trove of memories, this couple’s wedding was filled to the brim with fun, joy, and love.
Reflecting on the process behind choosing a home-based wedding and all the planning that went behind the scenes, Riti shares, “We stuck to our original wedding date and didn’t postpone it despite the uncertain situation in mind. Since we’d planned a grand wedding on the cards from the start, it was initially a bit difficult to scale it down to a home wedding where we could only invite our close family members with around 30 people. Everything was done at home, right from the decoration to both our outfits. To embellish the interiors, we called in a neighborhood flower vendor who beautifully decorated the house. The food served was, of course, homemade and all the other family members attended the ceremony via a Zoom call. They had also, graciously, created heartwarming dances and video snippets that my brother compiled and played as a surprise for both of us.
However, I think my mom had the most challenging job of all as she labored away during the lockdown to create our wedding outfits. Honestly, if she hadn’t helped us out, I’d probably be getting married in jeans! But thanks to her, we had gorgeous outfits. To round off the final look, I did my makeup myself, while my best friend helped me out with my hair. All in all, it was just perfect.”
When quizzed about her home wedding experience, the exuberant bride shares, “Honestly, as a Punjabi who had witnessed many grand weddings, I’d never imagined a small affair for myself, and had been building up towards a huge celebration for myself. But after this, I realized that my small intimate nuptials had everything I ever wanted in a wedding. We both felt extremely blessed and realized that material things don’t matter and at the end of the day, only love does. Our vendors were also very understanding and did not let the confines of a home limit their creativity. Dipak Studios, especially, impressed us with their stunning shots that captured the essence of each moment. And, most importantly, all my family members had so much fun even while maintaining the social distancing norms.”
