Flaunting earthy beauty, this couple’s Bengali wedding at The Rajbari Bawali will leave you mesmerised!
Wedding Planning - Jan 31, 2024
Celebrating heritage and simultaneously embracing contemporary styles, Sreemoyee and Aaren’s Bengali wedding was a treat! Hosted at the boutique heritage property, The Rajbari Bawali near Kolkata, the wedding packed a punch with its beautiful backdrops and vibrant hues.
Wedding Venue
Located an hour and a half away from Kolkata in West Bengal, The Rajbari Bawali is a 300-year-old architectural masterpiece that is spread across four acres. Offering luxury hospitality that is reminiscent of Bengali Zamindars – this wedding venue ensured the guests experienced the best of Bengal while indulging themselves to the fullest. The palatial backdrop, endless greenery and vintage interiors only added to the beauty of each event.
Wedding Planning
Planned and Photographed by Kolkata-based Red Launchers, the wedding went ahead seamlessly. Right from the stunning aashirbad and Mehndi event where everyone also shook a leg onstage to the enchanting Bengali wedding. And, since the guestlist featured many international citizens, the team was on their toes to ensure complete comfort.
Wedding Functions
Aashirbad and Mehndi
The celebrations commenced with a rustic aashirbad and mehndi event. Similar to an engagement, the aashirbad is a Bengali ritual where the bride and groom’s family come together to celebrate the upcoming union. Often jewellery, like, bangles and necklaces is bestowed on the bride from the groom’s side. However, nowadays, couples often exchange rings in tandem with the modern trend.
In Sreemoyee and Aaren’s case, this ritual also doubled up as a mehdni session with everyone getting their hands patterned with henna. The decor included cane baskets, dried lotus pods, pampas grass, macrame hangings and white blooms. Hosted by the pool, everyone enjoyed the soft sunshine while lounging in comfy seats.
Sangeet
The following evening was the sangeet, where everyone, regardless of their age, took the stage by storm. Fun games and graceful dance performances were the highlights of the evening with LED signage, elegantly appointed dinner tables and plenty of foliage adorning the open-air venue. Plus, the traditional Bengali ‘dhuni naach’ had everyone in awe!
Haldi
Packed with yellow and orange marigolds, the couple opted for an all-yellow decor for the haldi ritual. Contrasting beautifully with the raw brick-lined facade of the property’s backyard, the event also consisted of brass urlis where the couple was seated, a gold-tree backdrop and a criss-cross canopy to shelter guests from the sun.
Wedding
Glamour was at its peak on the big day with a fun baraat where the groom donned a ‘topor’ and danced his way to the venue with his loved ones. The mandap was bedecked with dainty blooms and foliage while the aisle was lined by banana plants which are considered highly auspicious by the Bengali community. Live classical music enchanted the guests with tabla, sitar and shehnai players adding their tunes to the moment. And, as the couple took their pheras, the guests chimed in by ringing miniature bells to celebrate the moment.
