From a helicopter ride around the Taj Mahal to staying in the suite that hosted Jeff Bezos, a wedding proposal truly one to behold!
Wedding Proposals - Oct 5, 2021
Gazing at one of the world’s most timeless and celebrated symbols of love, Gurshant’s proposal to Rohani was one of a kind. From an enthralling helicopter ride to a plush stay in one of India’s most expensive and luxurious hotel rooms, Gurshant shares the wondrous details of his proposal here.
How They Met
Gurshant shares, “I met Rohani for the first time in November 2020 when our respective aunts abroad decided to introduce us. We instantly connected, Christmas too was her absolute favorite time of the year. Before long, we knew we had found the perfect partner, and I wanted to ask her to be mine forever with an unforgettable proposal.”
The Proposal
“Rohani always had a thing for romantic movies, and I knew a simple proposal with flowers and “Marry Me” LED lights weren’t going to cut it, and so began the 60-day planning saga.
I started planning in April 2021, with a vision to pull off a proposal she would remember for her entire life. From the all-important question to the perfect ring, I wanted everything to show her how much I cherished her and valued her presence in my life. Keeping the monsoon season, the current flights and COVID restrictions in mind, I shortlisted North India and worked with my American Express Centurion and Quintessentially concierge teams to make the perfect plan” he shares.
Gurshant picked The Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra, as the venue to host his proposal, choosing none other than the elusive Kohinoor Suite, the hotel’s crown jewel famous for hosting the world’s who’s who and most recently Mr. Jeff Bezos. He planned out every little detail from the decor to personalized props, photography and more with an 8-person team that included the GM of the hotel. Everything was in place for the big day.
He continues, “The day finally arrived, and I picked up Rohani at her house with a bouquet of flowers in my hand. She was packed and ready for what she thought was a vacation and had no clue of what was to come. We headed to the airport, where we started our helicopter ride with the exclusive travel company ‘Incredible Taj’ that I had booked. The view of the DLF Golf Course and the beautiful Aravalli Hills was breathtaking, but it was the surreal aerial view of the Taj Mahal that stole our hearts! After reaching the helipad we had a quick photo session and then headed to the hotel.
As per my plan, we were escorted to a decoy room first, where I left Rohani under the pretext of upgrading to a better room so I could check on all the preparations in our Kohinoor Suite. The room was filled with 400 balloons, 100 candles and 25 bouquets of roses, while the passage was lined with petals and our pictures. Lit up with a hundred candles, the sprawling balcony was set up with a stunning dinner arrangement overlooking the Taj. I told Rohani to get dressed for dinner and come to the room at 6 PM. When she knocked, the doors were opened by two doormen and she walked in glittering in a lovely red dress, as if straight out of a Bond movie! She smiled as she saw me dressed in my suit, and it took my breath away. She looked around, glowing with happiness as she took in all the special arrangements, which she thankfully still thought was for a surprise dinner. As we stood in the balcony sipping champagne against the setting sun, with the majestic Taj Mahal in the background, I knew it was the perfect moment to pop the question. I went down on one knee and opened the custom engraved musical box I had gotten to reveal a beautiful ring as our favorite tune ‘La Vie en Rose’ came on and asked her to be my better half forever. She looked at the box, the quote and then the ring and burst out crying. As I held and hugged her, she whispered “Yes, I will marry you”.
We celebrated her “yes” with a lavish dinner serenaded by a violinist playing her favorite SRK songs. Waking up the next day to the arresting view of the Taj Mahal from the bedroom, followed by a memorable photoshoot, we ended the stay on a high note, excited to start the rest of our lives together.”
