How often do random strangers on Instagram land up as life partners? Harustat and Rustam’s extraordinary love story started when he tapped the ‘Follow’ button on her profile. Here, read how he surprised the girl of his dreams by proposing to her in a beautiful location near rolling hills and a lake.
Rustam shares, “Our love story started two years ago when we first started following each other on Instagram. Stumbling across Harustat’s profile which had lovely pictures on her feed, I knew she was perfect for me. I also didn’t want to approach her directly and get nowhere, so I began the conversation by talking about her dog Rex, a topic I knew would break the ice. It eventually led to a full-blown conversation and we discovered we had a lot in common.”
Harustat adds, “When I broke the news to my family, they were keen on meeting Rustam, so he boarded the next flight to Adelaide, Australia, to make it happen. There were butterflies in my stomach when we met each other for the first time in person. When we got talking, we soon realized that we were ready to progress to the next stage. After months of getting to know each other, Rustam knew a proposal was due to seal the deal.”
“After months of careful planning, doing thorough research, constantly checking the weather report and assistance from both families, Rustam wowed me with a wedding proposal better than I could’ve imagined. The trick was to align multiple factors like the helicopter operator, cameraman, cinematographer, and the weather while keeping it all a big secret.”
“After countless rescheduling due to torrential rainfalls, the special day arrived. Being an avid wildlife enthusiast, I was tricked into believing that we were going on a mountain to spot the native wildlife. The thought of sharing the helicopter with camera persons didn’t cross my mind since that was the only available flight due to the non-stop rains. As soon as we reached, I was blindfolded and made to stand on a heart made of rose petals placed on the lush grass of the mountainous terrain in Queenstown, New Zealand. When I opened my eyes, Rustam was down on one knee, asking my hand in marriage. In complete awe and excitement, my ‘Yes’ was followed by a sigh of relief to know the real reason behind Rustam being hooked to his phone on holiday. This auspicious occasion was topped off with a champagne celebration and a lovely drive home from Glenorchy to Queenstown.”
