How to pull off a Thailand Destination Wedding that is convenient yet the talk of the town!
Wedding Planning - Jul 26, 2023
With short travelling hours, a visa on arrival, warm hospitality and possessing a keen insight into Indian wedding traditions, Thailand is a destination where wedding dreams can easily come alive with minimal effort and yield maximum results! Jungles, beaches, cityscapes and lush country scapes -Thailand has something for every Indian couple who looks forward to hosting a destination wedding that’ll create a splash on their social media feeds. Needless to say, ‘The Land of Smiles’ has thrived under the spotlight and emerged as a wedding hotspot where Indian families can enjoy a serene celebration of love.
And, if you’re a couple who is keen on hosting a destination wedding in Thailand and on the lookout for inspiration and ideas, we’ve done the homework for you. Here are five wedding planners who share why Thailand is close to their hearts as a wedding destination while also giving us a glimpse at the unique weddings they’ve orchestrated at the ‘Land of Smiles’.
Kaveri Vij & Akshay Chopra from Designer Events Inc.
Thailand’s deep knowledge of Indian weddings and its ability to make every wedding, regardless of the scale, look beautiful is what charms Kaveri Vij & Akshay Chopra from Designer Events Inc. Describing one of the many unique weddings they hosted in Thailand, the duo adds, “Thailand is a land of opportunities and options. Other than the usual array of resorts and hotels, there are also a number of other venues that one could consider for an intimate wedding. For us, one such unique wedding had a guest list of 16 individuals and was hosted at an Air BnB for a span of three days. And, while planning a small wedding may sound easy, one has to be twice as careful while looking into the intricate details. Hosted at a rustic villa, the festivities were minimally decorated to accentuate the wooden architecture and hues like lavender and purple cut a striking contrast to the lush mountains. Instead of the usual gilding or drapes that are wrapped around the furnishings, we chose single monstera leaves to adorn the guests’ seats at the wedding. Plus, a monogrammed art piece and a card that explained the seven vows finished things off with flair. It was truly a family get-together which doubled up as a wedding and a vacation of sorts!”
Neha Mehrotra from Foreign Wedding Planners
In Thailand grandeur can easily soar to new heights with its convenient location making it perfect for celebrities and pop artists to grace the stage at your wedding. Recollecting how she gave glamour a generous boost at this particular wedding Neha says, “We did a wedding at Dusit Thani, Hua Hin with 550 pax. It was a high-profile wedding with lots of guests from leading business families and socialites from Delhi and Mumbai. The entertainment planned for this wedding was exclusively done. It included over 40 artists from across India and Thailand. As the guests got into the cab to be transferred from the airport they were greeted with specially customized voice recordings by Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra, personally welcoming the guests to the wedding from the family’s side. Several Russian, Thai, and European dancers were also engaged to perform daily. The baraat included Punjabi singer Dilbagh Singh as the groom made a grand entry on an elephant and guests were dancing for over four hours! The wedding dinner had singer Nitin Mukesh serenading the guests. The sheer magnitude of artists at this wedding was quite impressive, to say the least.”
Annika Talwar from The Wedding Network
Highly versatile to every culture apart from the usual desi festivities, Annika Talwar has a seamless experience in Thailand as she orchestrated a unique Iranian/Jordanian and Hindu wedding. She says, “The quick understanding and availability of elements that one requires at a fusion wedding, makes it an absolute joy for me to plan a wedding in Thailand. This wedding was a particularly important one as we had to strike a balance between both cultures so that they received equal time under the spotlight. The five days of festivities went ahead sans any hiccups and included a Sofreh Aghd & Nikah followed by Hindu Vedic Pheras. Accordingly, the look and feel of the ceremonies along with the cuisine were also customized to the respective cultures. The entire wedding exuded a global fusion vibe as guests flew in from the United Kingdom, Jordan, and Delhi.”
Apart from this cross-cultural wedding, Annika has also hosted boisterous wedding celebrations where the parties were epic and unique. She goes on to add, “Another memorable wedding was a three-day extravaganza in Phuket where we orchestrated an Aztec-themed youngsters sun-downer and a ‘Battle of Baraat’ between the bride and groom where each side gatecrashed the others’ baraat in bright LED lit signature Thai tuk-tuks. This particular couple was all for experimenting and we even had the hangover IV drips handy for them to freshen up after a smashing sangeet.”
Abhirath Shah from ANS Weddings
In Thailand, traditions and contemporary perspectives can easily find common ground as its landscape and resources are highly adaptable. As Abhirath Shah from ANS Weddings shares, “Our bride Aishwarya always wanted a white wedding by the beach where she and the groom, Aalesh, could take their vows.
The Banyan Tree Laguna in Phuket was picked for the wedding as the families on both sides wanted a unique experience for the guests. They wanted the luxury to be top-notch and to express their hospitality, they housed each guest in their very own pool villa with a private pool. The highlight of the 2 nights/3 days event was the Tribal Chic Pool Party. This was just off the hook! The music was energetic, the wardrobe was designed by the bride herself and the guests had a plush experience.”
Keeran Baweja from Keeran The Wedding Planner
When it comes to customisation, Thailand is the place for it. Keeran Baweja from Keeran The Wedding Planner shares, “We recently orchestrated a wedding in Bangkok and it flaunted some really unique themes that were pretty close to the couple’s hearts. As ardent admirers of the Harry Potter series since their teenage years, the couple hosted a unique Harry Potter-themed reception. Here, everything was customised as per the theme and the most memorable elements of the series were included in the decor. Right from a floor to ceiling ‘Chamber of Secrets’ book entrance, a Harry Potter library-style bookcase photo booth, an array of candles which was reminiscent of Hogwarts’ Great Hall, bottle labels with the Hogwarts crest, butterbeer inspires butterscotch drinks to bartenders sporting wizard hats completed the look. All in all, it’s safe to say that the couple and their loved ones had a magical time!”
Apart from the enchanting reception, this wedding also featured a ‘Money Heist’ themed poolside Mehndi. Keeran adds, “The poolside mehndi at first started off on a relaxing note. However, the duo had a surprise Money Heist re-enactment planned in the middle of the event! The bartenders changed into red jumpsuits and Dali masks. Plus, they also did a surprise hold-up of the guests with a champagne gun!”
