Love Actually- Saloni Patel and Smit Deliwala’s Platinum Day of Love
Love Actually, Precious Platinum - Mar 9, 2015
Our initiative ‘Love Actually’ is a photo series featuring couples who actively seek ideas and inspiration from WeddingSutra. The series celebrates the beautiful people in love as they start their lives together. Because real love can only begin, never end.
Smit, originally from Dubai, is currently enrolled at a medical school in Chicago. Saloni is a lawyer and is from Ahmedabad. Saloni and Smit first met in November 2011 at Smit’s cousin’s wedding in Ahmedabad.
He says, “One of the pre-wedding events was a ‘Poker Night’, and it was here that my cousin introduced us. We instantly connected- talking and laughing most of the night away. Since I was not from India, Saloni invited me to meet her friends the next evening to interact with people our age, listening to music all night long and eating food was the itinerary.” Adds Saloni: “This gave us a lot of time to spend time with each other. However, after that trip, both of us had to leave our separate ways. We tried to keep in touch, but staying in two different countries didn’t help. In October 2012, I left India to pursue my masters in law in New York, and Smit was not aware of my move. In November 2012 (not sure if it was fate or not), Smit moved to Chicago to start his medical education. A little after, through Facebook Smit found out that I was in New York, and this made communication much easier. We both only knew of each other in the United States, but this helped us grow close. In December, Smit flew down to New York to meet a few friends and met me as well and by this point we were talking almost every day. On 24th December, he asked me out at Times Square, and that was the start of something special.”
Fast-forward to 2014, Smit decided to make his relationship official by planning a proposal absolutely ‘out of the ordinary’. He elaborates, “I wanted to plan a proposal completely different, something that no one has thought of, or will ever see. When I pop the question, Saloni should be ‘Woah!’ and when someone else sees this proposal I want them to realize what I feel like for Saloni. I had bit and pieces in my mind and knew what I wanted to achieve, but it was with the help of Vasily from Aegean Films that everything meshed and came together. I contacted several people and considered many venues, but Greece was the place where I knew Saloni would be happiest.”
And Saloni did not know she was going to Greece, she thought she was going to Washington DC. So Smit planned it all like a big surprise. First the holiday there, and then the proposal- after they reached Greece, Smit planned one surprise after another, including a beautiful dress for her to wear especially for the proposal. He adds, “To surprise a girl like Saloni wasn’t easy, I really had to turn my mind on, be on the last gear and be in full flow!” And all of Smit’s efforts paid off when Saloni met him ready, and it all panned out beautifully once he proposed to her at one of the iconic cliffs in Santorini, wearing a platinum ring she herself had sent him a photo of a year ago! Post the proposal in Greece, Smit added a 7 day Mediterranean cruise to the itinerary, where he and Saloni continued the celebrations. The couple is now gearing up to say their ‘I dos’ on 9th April in 2015 in Udaipur. Team WeddingSutra wishes the lovebirds the very best as they take this next step to forever.
