Innovation took the front seat at this couple’s destination wedding with designs inspired by the 90’s era, Gaudi and Rajasthani motifs
Wedding Planning - Jul 31, 2023
When it came to extravagance, Mehzabeen Lakdawala and Ammar Abbas Fakhruddin’s destination wedding in Jaipur left nothing to chance as each celebration was meticulously curated. Designing their wedding was WeddingSutra Favorite – The A-Cube Project who understood the couple’s tastes precisely and crafted events that transported guests to a new world. Right from the whimsical architecture of Gaudi to incorporating the local flavors of Rajasthan, the design story took the guests on an immersive journey where, each day, they experienced something new.
Kicking off the festivities was a Gothic Dinner that doubled up as a welcome dinner and a vow ceremony. Ambika Gupta from The A-Cube Project shares, “An ode to the renowned Catalan Modernisme, and inspired by the beauty of the Basilica of Sagrada Familia, one of Mehzabeen and Ammar’s favourite landmarks in the world, the welcome dinner evoked an ambience of old-world charm. Intricate Gothic details drawn from the work of Antoni Gaudi’s era were brought to life as Mehzabeen & Ammar stood in front of their family & friends to take their vows.”
The second day started off with an afternoon brunch which was named ‘The Rajkumari’s Luncheonette.’ Recollecting the design story Ambika shares, “The celebratory lunch aimed to recreate the quintessential guest experience when one meets the Rajkumari and her royal family. Drawing inspiration from the ever-hospitable royal families of yesteryear India, this event created a rich and opulent vibe amidst lush greenery, using gleaming silverware and delicate pearls, accentuated by soft pink roses and crisp sea green chiffons.”
The evening witnessed a celestial sangeet that brimmed with graceful performances. Ambika shares, “Inspired by the couple’s love of all things celestial, the sangeet recreated the magic of the galaxies under the starry skies of the Jai Mahal Palace to celebrate a night of dancing and revelry, representing their love that is as infinite as the cosmos.”
Next in line was the pre-wedding lunch which was a celebration of Rajasthani art from the region on Sanganer. Ambika shares, “Sanganeri prints that are deeply reminiscent of ancient and exquisitely landscaped baghs, are believed to have emerged in the mid-17th century with the royal families of Rajasthan as the primary patrons of this traditional craft. Inspired by its rich history, the pre-wedding lunch featured a play of indo contemporary block prints and lush florals. Customised linens in myriad hues of orange and pink were used to pay tribute to the artisans of Sanganer.”
Ammar’s love for the Taj Mahal was reflected at the wedding and the dinner that followed. Ambika shares, “Inspired by Ammar’s love for The Taj Mahal, a landmark of one of the greatest tributes to love, the nikkah featured nuances of Arabesque architecture, evoking an ethereal and majestic ambience for the wedding ceremony. Deriving influences from Arabic script and the traditional passa headpiece, the setting was elegant.”
