Inspired by Beauty and the Beast meets Bollywood – this couple’s engagement event was a luxurious celebration swathed in hues of red and gold

Adorned with regal hues of red, bronze, and gold – Naureen Salim and Abid Abdulla’s engagement exuded elegance and grandeur. With the couple showcasing their love for their roots as well as new-age silhouettes when it came to the decor, the engagement flaunted a fusion of elements that were paired together seamlessly by their planner WeddingSutra Favorite – Watermark Weddings.
Sidhesh Kandiyil from the planning team shares “For this engagement, rather than going with the usual traditional Muslim customs, we wanted to infuse it with an Indo-Western feel. Hence, we planned the setup to resemble a fairytale and chose the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ theme, as the bride intended to wear yellow, just like Belle does in the movie. The Indian touch was inspired by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie set aesthetics, which added to the opulence.”
Not a detail was missed as the setup was heavily inspired by Belle’s library castle in Beauty and The Beast. Gold chandeliers and chairs were strategically placed giving the ambience a sophisticated vibe. Being a bride who loves to keep things fuss-free Naureen kept her entry very simple as she walked down the aisle with her brothers in tow who donned red safas. Once Naureen reached the stage, she took a seat on the plush red sofa which was paired with gilded chairs and a marble-top centre table. The decor brimmed with scarlet roses which were interspersed with foliage. Keen to make full use of all the decor at hand, the engagement favours were bouquets made of the hybrid flowers that were used in the decor. Sharing an interesting anecdote from the festivities, Sofia Mathew from Watermark Weddings says, “as per the Muslim tradition and customs the groom was given a luxury watch from the bride’s side and the bride was gifted with gold jewelry.”
As the event progressed, the guests indulged in the large buffet laid out for them. With the guest list featuring a majority of individuals who’d flown in from UAE, the spread contained a mix of Arabic, Indian and Continental cuisine. Additionally, the guests were also mesmerised by an energetic and magical performance by a talented Sufi-Qawalli singer.
