Malvika and Rishabh’s Platinum Love Story

Malvika Mehta, a marketing entrepreneur and Rishabh Trehan, a financial analyst have known each other since childhood with their parents being close friends. Malvika shares, “Our parents have known each other for a long time. In fact, my Dad was Rishabh’s mom’s doctor when she was carrying him. So, there is no exact moment when ‘we first met’. We’ve, both, grown up in the town of Ambala and there was never a time in my life when we didn’t know each other!”
From casual acquaintances, and the best of friends to life partners, Malvika and Rishabh’s journey has been a long one with ebbs and flows. But what makes it special is they have both seen each other grow into unique individuals who respect each other’s perspectives and dreams. Malvika shares, “We have seen each other through many phases of life. Right from the awkward teenage years, the exploratory years in college when we were confused about our paths in life to the changes and the challenges we face as adults to build a better tomorrow together. Of course, we aren’t the same people we were when we started dating, but through it, our deep friendship, respect for each other’s dreams and the love we share have kept us anchored.”
While Malvika runs her own marketing agency in Delhi, Rishabh pursues a career in finance in the city of Toronto. And, as they manage their hectic work lives, they also nourish an unconventional long-distance marriage that defies the miles and is a testament to the fact that if two individuals are in love, they’ll go to great lengths to make things work. Rishabh shares, “ Cherishing each other’s dreams has been the cornerstone of our relationship from the very beginning. In fact, our relationship began when Malvika was leaving for the US to pursue a degree. We stayed together for a couple of months after she completed her degree and returned home, but then, it was my turn to fly off to Canada to pursue my MBA. We both understand exactly how important our individual ambitions are. Yes, a long-distance marriage is not an ideal one, but Malvika and I have complete faith in this love that we share.
Our bond has kept us stable through every challenge life has thrown our way. Right from the time when Malvika was scrambling to set up her own agency, our trepidations as we moved from the small town of Ambala to a bigger city abroad to study to the time when I was hunting for a job that I knew would keep me away from home for a more than a few years.
When we took the plunge and let our unconventional decision be known to our loved ones, eyebrows were raised. But, when you have the right person by your side who has been pivotal in your growth story, none of this matters. Everyone expects the wife to move to a new country with her husband, but then, what about her goals? For me, Malvika’s goals are just as important as mine.”
Malvika goes on to add, “ Truth be told, I did have my apprehensions when we decided to tie the knot. Questions like – ‘What if we drift apart?’, ‘What if we can’t be there for each other?’ or ‘What if we can’t make this work?’ popped into my head. I conveyed my fears to Rishabh and his words made all these insecurities fade away. He said, ‘Malvika, we both know each other inside out. I know how hard you’ve worked to be a successful entrepreneur. We don’t have to abandon our dreams to fit a certain mould. Our love is strong enough to survive this. No matter what, we will make this work.’ His uninhibited love and his faith in the bond we share reawakened my confidence. We simply clicked! Knowing that he has a student loan to pay off, I never asked him to compromise and leave his work for my sake and he did the same. It had been two years since I started my agency and he knew exactly how important these budding years would be for my business. Our wavelengths matched and we shared the same passion for our dreams.”
Reflecting on their unique bond, the couple shares, “ We celebrate each other’s wins and when one of us comes up short, we gently nudge each other in the right direction. Both of us have hectic schedules but when the day ends, we circle back to each other and find comfort. Regardless of the erratic timezones, we are each other’s constants and go out of our way to showcase the commitment we feel towards our love.”
Together despite the miles, Malvika and Rishabh are each other’s anchors as they commit to nourishing their love. Celebrating their rare love are Platinum Love Bands that remain untarnished through years of wear and tear.
