Bride Amrita and her bridesmaids strike a pose in some of WeddingSutra’s favourites
Call it the girl-gang, the mod-squad, the cute-crew, having your besties by your side at the most important times in your life is an unparalleled feeling.
When Amrita shared her delight at having her childhood friends as bridesmaids at her winter wedding in Kolkata this year, WeddingSutra decided to treat the dream team to a makeover, ensemble, to get them in the mood for the big day!
These lovely, laughing young women were invited to spend a day at the luxurious JW Marriott Sahar, Mumbai, close to the Mumbai International Airport. Walking into the spacious Presidential Suite took their breath away. “A suite loft, with so much natural light, two spacious bathrooms, lattice frames!” Amrita exclaimed, “What more could a bride ask for?” Team WeddingSutra had the answer to that question as they grinned and welcomed them with macarons and chocolates from La Folie Patisserie and crisp, refreshing Ciroc Vodka cocktails.
The first of the footloose and fancy-free to tie the knot, Amrita’s friends, Dipti, Trupti, Maahi and Zuni were curious and excited at the prospect of this rehearsal with no less than WeddingSutra’s panel of experts!
The morning began with the bride and her bridesmaids start prep in the JW Marriott signature robes. Our photographer, Rajesh Dembla was at hand to capture the chatter and stifled squeals as the girls picked their outfits from a chic collection by KALKI Fashion in complementary hues of blush and pink. Curated with a theme, each outfit had an element of glamourous glitter and shimmer incorporated into the embroidery and finishing.

The bride-to-be chose tradition and heritage in a crimson red lehenga. Maahi was thrilled with her effortless brush drape outfit while Zuni twirled happy as she admired herself in the pink shimmery lehenga. She admitted, “I never thought baby pink could look so pretty!” Trupti was spellbound by her perfectly fitting lehenga and cape in pink and Dipti loved the girlie bow on her sequined lehenga.

Cory Walia’s team of experts walked in and the girls just gaped at each other in awe as they were deftly transformed in their first professional hair and make-up experience. Amrita was taking notes right through as she watched Cory himself use the shimmery Illuminate range by Lakmé Absolute to work his magic. While each of her bridesmaids retained their own unique personalities, they loved how there was a group synergy with the looks. “There’s loads to learn from Cory,” Amrita mused, “I waited patiently as Cory worked on my makeup near the large suite windows and finally looked at myself in the mirror, glowing like never before!”

Then it was time for the bride to get her hands on a range of bridal jewellery by Manubhai Jewels. She chose a choker and maang tikka while her bridesmaids picked earrings from Pookaari‘s wide range of jhumkaas and chaandbalis. With clutches by Be Chic to accessorize their ensembles, the girls were done.

And here it was, the moment they’d been preparing for – the photo shoot. Photographer Rajesh Dembla had already endeared himself to the girls, putting them at ease as he discreetly shot candid images all through the day. Trusting that they’d look their best, they began with some bridesmaids’ capers as they posed and laughed holding their Baby’s Breath bouquets by events planner Atisuto Events. Then they were directed to the glitter backdrop also set up by Atisuto Events for the shoot.

Cory Walia was on hand to give the girls tips on posing and pouting for the camera as each of them, in turn, faced up to the lens. Zuni and Trupti found their inner divas immediately and posed effortlessly. Dipti and Maahi warmed up and brought some subtle poise for the cameras. They then ventured out to the poolside at JW Marriott, Sahar, bringing their own brand of sunshine to an overcast day.

In the excitement of the day, the girls had been distracted with all the bonding and gossip and childhood memories as they joked around with the WeddingSutra team… But it slowly began to sink in that soon, one of them was taking a new path. As the emotions began to build, the girls talked about how glad they were for this experience of spending the day together, making some great memories. “We’ll be talking about this day and cherishing these moments long after Amrita’s big day,” they agreed.
“This shoot was the best wedding gift I could ask for!” Amrita beamed, “I now know what it feels like to be a WeddingSutra bride!”that
