Priyank and Ruchi, Camp Evergreen, Barvi River, Badlapur
Destination Weddings, Wedding Photography & Films - Aug 17, 2017
For nature enthusiasts, Priyank and Ruchi, tying the knot in the wilderness was a dream come true! These two lovebirds met in an arranged marriage setup and decided to get married in the most unique way in a wild and wonderful location. Groom Priyank shares some highlights of their outdoor ‘Camp Wedding’.
“Our families arranged for us to meet, and when Ruchi and I met, sparks flew instantly between us. And before we knew it, we got engaged – just six days after that meeting. Since I love the outdoors and enjoy the wilderness more than anything, Ruchi and I mutually decided to tie the knot in a unique way. We could think of no better way to embark on our journey together than by celebrating the occasion in the midst of Mother Nature.”
The couple’s friends were enthusiastic about the idea and played a big role in planning and executing this beautiful and fun outdoor wedding at Camp Evergreen.
Set amidst the serene and lush wilderness on the banks of Barvi river in Badlapur, Camp Evergreen was beautifully decorated and wedding set-up that was predominantly traditional. “It was a total DIY wedding. Seven of my closest friends with hidden talents and interests (got to know the talents during the preparations) made for a kickass wedding-planning team along with the two of us. It started 10 days before the big day, with the décor shopping. We shopped a lot at Crawford Market in Mumbai and got varied lights, accents, décor, inflatables, and props for parties. Two days before the event our wedding squad, a couple of electricians and decorators from the nearby village and approximately 10-12 local villagers started setting up the place. We did it all, right from pitching the tents to putting lanterns, fairy lights, setting up counters and beautifying the place. Some of us were climbing trees to put up lights and décor, some were busy decorating the wooden placards. Someone was guiding villagers to clean up and others helped the local decorator to put up the mandap. For all of us, it was the most enriching experience of our lives.”
“Our dream wedding involved having our guests trek a mountain, stay in tents, swim in a flowing river, eat simple food and enjoy some soulful music around a flaming bonfire. The idea was to let everyone get a taste of what I love the most. Many of us would love these things, but very few get an opportunity to indulge in such activities. I wanted all our guests to relish these experiences as much as I do, and everybody had a memorable experience at our wedding. All of them slept in tents with minimal luxuries, participated in all the events with zeal, and sang and danced right till the end.”
“Since the path leading to the mandap wasn’t so good, we instructed our guests to wear sports shoes irrespective of their attire. So many were dressed in ethnic wear with sports shoes – it was hilarious! Our special moment and the highlight of the wedding celebration was definitely the ‘varmala’ (exchange of garlands) ceremony done atop a rock near the flowing river. ”
“The live band which performed till wee hours of the morning on the banks of the river under the full moon was outstanding. We also managed to tie up with a team of specialized professionals who managed activities like rappelling, rifle shooting, rock climbing, bullock cart rides, and more. Moments from our unique wedding were captured by Arrow Multimedia and the results are truly memories that we will relive and cherish for a lifetime.”
