Retro fans and festive florals impress all at this cocktail bash
Wedding Planning - Mar 13, 2019
A wedding ceremony is the most important aspect of any couple’s nuptials. However, pre-wedding functions add that much-awaited dose of fun to any celebration.
WeddingSutra Favorite Marriageuana recently planned a chic cocktail party in Kolkata and transformed the venue using traditional and contemporary elements in a compelling manner.
The soiree was hosted at the JW Marriott Hotel Kolkata in an open-air setting which offered panoramic views of the city. Called ‘Fan My Dreams’ the breathtaking affair saw the venue painted in shades of red and white. Telling us about the inspiration behind the color scheme, Pramod Lunawat of Marriageuana shares, “While the entire setup had been planned by us, we wanted to ensure that all of it felt very personal to the couple. Therefore, we decided that we would incorporate their tastes through the use of their favorite shades. The bride is very fond of red while the groom loves white and so it was decided that these hues would dominate the decor. We also made use of a few green elements to break the dual color palette.”
Decor highlights at the event included ‘pankhis’ (a traditional hand-held semi-circular fan). Pramod explains, “The ‘pankhi’ was very popular at one time, but it hasn’t been seen a lot for a while. While planning the setup, we could visualize these fan-like elements matching the theme perfectly, and all that we needed to do was use them creatively to make them look modern. So we erected a large canopy and from its ceiling, we suspended large ‘pankhis’ trimmed with red blooms while interspersing them with lots of vines and baby’s breath blooms.”
The pillars were covered with large mirror panels and reflected the beautiful elements all around. Another interesting addition at the event were the lounges that had been created for guests to relax in. The team set up canopies whose posts were also covered in large mirror panels, while the backdrops featured brick walls. “The gleaming mirrors against the rugged textured walls provided a pleasing contrast that fused rustic and elegant aesthetics. We added lots of white couches and floral arrangements. These areas were a hit through the night and provided enough space for large groups while adding a sense of coziness to the overall setting.”
Two distinctive styles of tables dotted the rest of the venue. While the round tables featured tall centerpieces with red flowers, the rectangular ones were decked with the prettiest table frames that had suspended candle holders and were decorated with baby’s breathes.
