Founder Jyoti Jalan Kohli shares with us her journey to excellence, giving us a unique insight on everything that goes into planning a dreamy destination wedding in the UAE.
What was your inspiration behind OH! SO Desi? Tell us about your journey so far.
Hailing from a family of Hoteliers and with my education in Masters in Hospitality Management from SHMS, Switzerland, I’ve always been passionate about the hospitality sector. Over the last 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of working in 5-star luxury hotels in Dubai and Goa as an Event Planner. This opportunity piqued my interest in the events sector. I realized that event management was my strength and true passion right after I tasted great success in planning weddings for my family and friends, hosting International Dignitaries and celebrities, and also managing catering for International Cricket matches.
I launched OH! SO Desi Events with the vision to create a unique brand in the UAE that offers exceptional tailor-made services and delivers flawless dream weddings. I want clients to get the feel of world-class hospitality and service by ensuring a smooth and hassle-free execution process. Today’s young couples want to be an integral part of the planning and financial aspect of their wedding as they want to contribute in every way possible. So through my experience, I wanted to ensure that planning a wedding does not become a stress factor or financial burden on any family. My goal is to curate beautiful weddings – big or intimate, local or destination, and also, to provide an opportunity for couples and families to enjoy every moment of the planning process while creating everlasting memories for them.
It has been an exciting journey so far as I have been a part of wonderful celebrations. The brand vision to provide extraordinary yet unique weddings is embedded in our ethics, where we ensure exceptional service by taking on limited projects in a year, to offer dedicated time to each and every guest. We have been fortunate to have worked with wonderful clients who have become like a family and their support has been vital to our growth and success.
Tell us about some of your favorite venues, destinations or unexplored gems in the UAE for unforgettable destination weddings.
From luxurious beach weddings to celebrations in the middle of the desert, the UAE offers multiple experiences for spectacular weddings. Talking about unique venues, Intercontinental Fujairah Resort is one of my favorite venues for weddings. It is a beachfront property with the backdrop of Hajar mountains which is an idyllic venue for outdoor weddings. The Resort offers lavish outdoor venues and indoor banqueting facilities as well.
The Ritz-Carlton Dubai is another one of my favorite venues. It’s a beachside oasis located in the heart of the Marina. With sea-side gardens offering a view of the gorgeous sunset to an elegant indoor ballroom, it is the perfect setting for making your special day truly unforgettable.

Having planned several destination weddings, what have been some of your most memorable wedding moments or requests?
I am personally involved in all the weddings keeping true to the brand vision and commitment, and that includes leading every project from initial contact with guests to the final execution of the event. A wedding celebration is all about creating memories, and this approach has always given me the opportunity to be a part of their special journey. From a mesmerizing mandap on a helipad in the middle of the Arabian Gulf to planning a lavish 6-course menu for an intimate wedding, every celebration has been an unforgettable journey.
With the immense popularity of destination weddings and couples seeking new locations for their big day, what sets the UAE apart?
UAE has gained immense popularity over the last few years as an evolving and sought-after destination across all seven emirates. From having world-class resorts, diverse culinary experiences and smooth air connectivity to a robust Indian diaspora, UAE is an ideal destination for bespoke celebrations. With the booming hospitality industry, the country offers hotels across all calibers based on a client’s preference ranging from 5-star luxury resorts with grand venues to intimate yet exotic locations. UAE is a cosmopolitan country that is home to many nationalities and it is also familiar with weddings that have different needs and traditions making it an ideal destination for celebrations.
What is the one important thing that you as an expert suggests to couples while they’re looking to get married in UAE?
Being a top tourist destination, the rates in the UAE market are influenced by the holiday seasons across the world, with the UK, Europe and CIS being the top markets. Hence planning the dates in advance plays a crucial role in securing the best deals. UAE offers perfect weather for outdoor weddings from September to April, so this would be the ideal season to plan your destination wedding.
