The relaxed flair of Seychelles has attracted lovebirds for years. Slesha and Nimish’s engagement photo shoot in this tropical paradise will surely warm your heart. Here, Slesha shares their journey of love that led to a gorgeous engagement and some highlights from the engagement shoot.
The Love Story
“Nimish and I have two versions of how we met. We met at Math camp when we were 15 and we didn’t talk much that summer because he was the smartest student in the class. He’d finish every problem first and never got a question wrong. He even tried to sit next to me one day, but I got up and moved because I was incredibly intimidated. Still, he got my attention.
If you ask Nimish how we met, he would probably tell you I caught his attention and that it was really the other way around. A little less than a year after our math camp interaction we were both performing at an annual talent show for the Hindu Temple Youth Group in Kansas City. He had completely forgotten we had met, and after my dance performance, he came up and introduced himself. After the event, all of the performers our age went out to dinner and Nimish sat across the table from me. We talked and exchanged numbers and started texting the next day. A few months later we were best friends.”
The Proposal
“Our tradition is to travel for birthdays and when Nimish suggested we go to LA for his, I didn’t suspect anything.
We landed in LA and headed to the hotel – the beautiful SLS in Beverly Hills. When we arrived, Nimish told the staff to ‘surprise us’ with a complimentary spa package as a gift for his birthday. Little did I know, it was all a clever ruse to make sure I was pampered and relaxed for the proposal. We headed up to Ciel Spa, where we received a couple’s massage, I got a manicure/pedicure, and Nimish got a haircut. After the spa, while I was putting on an outfit Nimish had helped me pick out, Nimish picked up our rental car for the trip – a red Ford Mustang convertible, the same car he picked me up in for our first date.
We hopped in, dropped the top, and blasted music while taking in the views along the Pacific Coast Highway. We drove to Point Dume, a cliff with breathtaking views on the coast of Malibu. At the top of the cliff, Nimish got down on one knee and proposed with a custom Jean Dousset ring. A pair of tourists turned out to be hidden photographers he had arranged to photograph the entire proposal!”
The Engagement Shoot
“Nimish and I try to hit one area of the world every year. Since we met I’ve wanted to take Nimish on a trip to Kenya and Tanzania. My late maternal grandmother was born in Eldoret, Kenya and I wanted Nimish to experience the thrill of a safari in Tanzania. We love adventure vacations, but like mixing it with the right amount of relaxation. After, doing a little research we decided Seychelles would be perfect to visit after a week of safaris. Plus, the scenic beauty would make for an amazing backdrop for our engagement photos. Since I am a professional model, we decided on a fashion-themed shoot. Fortunately, we found DeWaal, who was able to bring that vision to life; you can tell he is an absolute professional. He sent us a few ideas for the shoot, and we chose our favorite locations based on his suggestions.”
