Stay safe at your favorite salons, skin clinics & spas!
Bridal Fashion and Beauty - Jul 16, 2020
Goodbye DIY haircuts and homemade face masks! It’s time for pampering and grooming again as salons, skin clinics and spas are opening up after the multiple lockdowns in India.
Safety and hygiene at salons, skin clinics and spas have become paramount as government guidelines such as temperature checks, sanitization of premises, e-payments, and new grooming kits/protective gear per customer, are established. At many outlets, customers have to fill and sign a self-declaration form stating their travel history and whether they have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
To get an insider’s view about safety at salons, skin clinics and spas which are re-opening, we looked at what four industry experts are doing to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for their clients.

Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic
An industry veteran with more than 35 years of experience, Dr. Blossom Kocchar and her holistic beauty brand Aroma Magic have been cult favorites for decades. Currently, they have restarted almost all their services. After several months of lockdown, their hair related services such as cuts and coloring sessions, especially for grey locks, are the most popular, followed by pedicures. Facials and other services are being booked less often right now. The company has cut its service capacity of clients by half to ensure the mandatory two-meter distance between all and any services which need to be done in close proximity.
Kaya Clinics
One of the most acclaimed and biggest skincare chains in the country, Kaya Clinics has been the preferred choice for thousands of women and brides for their wide range of beauty, skin and healthcare services. Additionally, the lounge seating of every clinic has been redone to maintain social distancing protocols. Almost 60+ safety protocols have been put in place, and all the clinic staff members have been certified as per the safety procedures. Also, the management has mandated that the Aarogya Setu app must be installed by clients inside the clinic premises as proof of health status. Currently, product sales and consultations have re-started in the Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad clinics, with other services to follow soon.

Keeping the client and staff safety in mind, the treatments being offered have been categorized based on safety. Working with limited staff, the clinics are operating on solely appointments basis and are spacing them out to avoid any crowding and ensuring enough time for proper cleaning before and after procedures. As a protective measure, no clients under the age of 10 or over 65 are being allowed right now.
What You Can Do
There are several measures that you should take at your end for a safe and pleasant experience at salons, spas and skincare clinics.
– Always take an appointment, so that the salon can be up to date with their sanitization and preparation awaiting your arrival, and no measures are forgotten or overlooked in a hurry.
– Whenever you are handed a safety kit to use or don during your service, be observant of its condition such as whether its components are sealed/ sanitized or not. Do not accept items that look like they have been recently used.
– In case you happen to develop any symptoms of any illness before your appointment, cancel and reschedule only when completely recovered. This is crucial for your safety as well as others.
– Most importantly, adhere to all rules laid down by the government and the establishment you are visiting. While not always the most convenient, these steps must be observed by us as a society for the foreseeable future to ensure our collective health and happiness.
