Surrounded by the Alps and decked up with larger-than-life decor – this destination wedding in Switzerland was a fairytale come to life!
Wedding Planning - Jul 11, 2023
When it came to their wedding, Sanskriti and Rohan Kumar expected nothing less than extraordinary. Hailing from prominent Delhi-based business families, the couple was keen on perfection in every aspect. Planned and designed by WeddingSutra Favorite – Fabled Forevers Destination Weddings & Events, this union was a jaw-dropping spectacle.
Planning a destination wedding is not a cakewalk, especially when it comes to hosting weddings at off-beat destinations. It’s right here where an expert hand is essential to guide the families and the couple to facilitate an unforgettable experience. Spearheaded by the Fabled Forevers Destination Weddings & Events team, the wedding went ahead smoothly. However, the colossal task of planning didn’t come without its challenges. But with determination and their vast network, the planning and design team orchestrated a stunning wedding as Shilpa Sukumar from Fabled Forevers Destination Weddings & Events shares, “The beauty and challenge of planning Rohan and Sanskrit’s extraordinary wedding journey began with finding a suitable venue in Europe during the summer months. The couple desired pleasant temperatures for their guests, which posed a significant challenge given the typically hot climate is prevalent in many European destinations. However, their quest for the perfect venue led them to a hidden gem nestled amidst the Swiss Alps—St. Moritz. This renowned destination, frequented by the world’s elite, offered a respite from the summer heat and became the idyllic setting for their dream wedding. The higher elevation, cooler temperatures, and refreshing mountain breezes offered a serene escape from the scorching European summer.
The couple was captivated by the charm and allure of St. Moritz, a destination renowned for its natural beauty and exclusivity. They were drawn to the tranquil lakes, majestic mountains, and authentic Swiss green landscapes that surrounded the area. It was the second wedding we organized for this particular family. While we have experience planning destination weddings for esteemed Indian business families, this event posed a unique challenge, requiring meticulous planning within a very tight timeframe. With a guest list of 750 guests and just one and half months to plan – this union also allowed us to expand the horizons of our creativity as a team. We assembled a team of 167 professionals, including 40 florists, 32 decorators, 45 technical experts, hostesses, runners, and handymen to ensure nothing fell short of perfection.”
Cocktail
Kicking off the festivities was a vibrant cocktail party featuring performances by Badshah, Aastha Gill, Jonita Gandhi and others. Shilpa shares, “The evening’s brief called for a captivating fusion of modern chic and classic elegance infused with a bold touch. The cocktail party was envisioned as an elegant and welcoming affair, allowing guests from both families to mingle and celebrate in style. To ensure an exceptional experience, the event boasted superior sound systems, advanced lighting rigs, and state-of-the-art stage equipment. The staging and set design were thoughtfully crafted to create a visually stunning backdrop that would enhance the performances and captivate the audience. Delicate spotlights illuminated each table, fostering an intimate and cozy atmosphere for guests to relax and enjoy. Guests were treated to an exquisite culinary journey meticulously curated by renowned chefs who expertly fused European and Indian flavors. The finest selection of wines and spirits was served, enhancing the grandeur of the celebration. The decor style for the evening beautifully blended modern chic and classic elegance, incorporating a striking color scheme of yellow, black, and white. Vibrant yellow flowers were artfully arranged, infusing the design with vibrancy, warmth, and joy.”
Sangeet
Shilpa shares, “The evening was exclusively reserved for the family members to showcase their talents. A transparent stage was constructed atop a Swiss-curated purple-green garden. The tent was positioned near St. Moritz Lake and was adorned with Swarovski crystal chandeliers imported from the Netherlands.”
Sufi Night
The following day the adults were enthralled by a soul-stirring Sufi night by the legendary Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, while the younger attendees danced the night away at the disco party. Shilpa shares, “The very English ballroom at Kulm Hotel underwent a stunning transformation into an Arabic/Moroccan ambience. The space was adorned with striking blue hues and complemented by elegant dark leather sofas and lounge seating.”
Wedding and Reception
Surrounded by vistas that resembled the pages of a fairytale, it’s expected that the groom will make a regal entry on a carriage! Shilpa shares, “Rohan’s baraat procession consisted of a horse-drawn carriage and a floral shower. Spanning an hour, the procession involved wedding guests and attracted participation from the entire city of St. Moritz.”
While the varmala venue did have its share of limitations, the team tackled those splendidly and laid the families’ doubts to rest. Shilpa recollects, “There was a concern about where the varmala moment will take place as the family wanted this ritual to stand out. Given the height constraints of the venue and space limitations, we reassured them that a completely new stage would be created for the varmala. The very next day, the family was greeted with the new setup for the ceremony and were quite delighted!
The color palette chosen for, both, the wedding and reception was white and peach so that maximum attention was on the couple.
The reception area was constructed over two levels, with the upper level exclusively reserved for the bride, groom, and immediate family. The materials for the 2000 sq meter setup were flown in by helicopter due to limited access. This was the first time this venue had hosted such a large event.”
