Speaking about the images captured from their recent honeymoon in Greece, talented filmmaker couple Noopur and Anish from Happy Flashbacks share their secrets to clicking the most Instagram-worthy pictures on your honeymoon. Read on to find out.
Do you suggest investing in a professional camera? Apart from a camera, what gear or equipment would you suggest carrying?
Investing in a professional camera setup is not required at all for someone going on their honeymoon. An entry-level DSLR camera is good enough to begin with. A GoPro can also be handy and it is something that is easy to carry on a holiday, particularly if you want to shoot videos in all sorts of environments, including underwater.
Don’t forget that it’s your honeymoon and you need to enjoy your time together. It’s imperative that you travel light and don’t bog yourselves down with heavy gear and equipment.
To capture locations and portraits, use a remote and a lightweight tripod.
How would you suggest selecting outfits for the honeymoon?
Your honeymoon is your time together. While travelling, keep it lightweight and comfortable. At the same time, carry outfits that go well with the location you are travelling to.
For example, if you wear whites, blacks, blues or even reds in Greece, it will definitely make you stand out in your pictures.
Another important detail is shoes. Carry the most comfortable walking/sports shoes. These will be a great companion when you travel, especially when exploring. You won’t always come across perfectly flat surfaces and no one wants a twisted ankle on a holiday. Remember that you need to explore in order to capture the beauty of a location. Shoes win over cute heels, always!
Note: Women should choose dresses that go well with shoes you’ve picked. You don’t want to look odd in your travel pictures.
Well-known places are sure to be crowded with tourists. How do you avoid being photobombed?
There’s always a new perspective to look for when capturing the beauty of a location. You need to have an eye to find vacant spots that can make for beautiful frames.
Choosing the right time to visit is also key. Off-season travel is great for exploring hidden gems within a location, as well as experiencing everything without hordes of tourists around. Try finding unique spots to capture the real essence of the place you are visiting.
How do you suggest adding a local touch to images?
Capturing the local essence of the destination is possible when you become a part of the place. Enjoy the local cuisine, engage with local people and making sure that you don’t forget to photograph yourself against the beautiful landscape. These are all ways of ensuring you add authenticity to your photos and make memories for a lifetime. These will be great when you look back on the wonderful time you had with your partner.
What are the golden hours of the day which should not be missed to capture great clicks?
Early mornings, right after sunrise, and just before sunset. These hours will give you the best colors and the feel of the destination.
However, don’t restrict yourself to only these timings. You can get amazing photos and make beautiful memories at any time of the day. You just need to be observant and ready to capture moments as they happen.
Any additional tips regarding honeymoon photography that you would want to share with us?
It’s your honeymoon so enjoy your time together. When you do that, you will automatically capture genuine and candid moments. It’s not always necessary to pose in all your pictures. Sometimes going crazy works wonders, and it is those pictures that you end up cherishing the most. Years later, when you look at these photos, you will want to remember the beautiful memories you had – the kind that bring a smile to your face as you say, “look at this…it was such a beautiful place and we had the time of our lives together”.
