This bride-to-be surprised her fiance with a beachside proposal in the Maldives

They knew each other since childhood, and over the years, their friendship turned into something deeper, so Neil and Sonam set a date to wed this year. But as fate would have it, their plans had to be kept on hold due to the pandemic. And though Neil had already proposed to her on the serene and sunny shores of their favorite holiday destination – the Maldives, this time around Sonam decided to take charge and pop the question to him at the same place. Orchestrating an ultra-romantic, surprise proposal for your to-be-husband is no mean feat, but luckily Sonam managed to pull it off!
Sharing her thoughts on what spurred her to do a second proposal, Sonam shares, “It’s been a crazy year for Neil and me. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our wedding was postponed, and for a moment I just felt like our life had paused. Since we were engaged for a long time and mentally, we’re already life partners, this year has been a long and confusing one. Keeping this in mind, I just wanted to experience being engaged again. And when Neil wanted to visit the Maldives, a place we visit every year, it just struck me that this was the perfect spot for me to pop the question!”
Explaining why she chose the Maldives, Sonam adds, “The Maldives has always been our ‘special place’ where we go time and again to indulge ourselves on the peaceful beaches while enjoying the gorgeous scenery and warm hospitality of the island. Also, Neil had done a fabulous job at his proposal at this very destination last year, so I knew that everything would go ahead just as planned. Of course, we also took all the necessary precautions like getting ourselves tested three days before leaving, but the staff members at our hotel were also tested to ensure everyone was safe. Also in the Maldives, you’re already socially distanced anyway and can revel without a worry!”
“The team at the Four Seasons at Landaa Giraavaru is extremely efficient and we always feel at home here. And even though this time, they were short on staff, I was pleasantly surprised to see the senior management members being so hands-on as I went about executing the proposal. They even helped me put the letters ‘Will you still marry me?’ on the sandbank. And in my opinion, that’s what makes this place so special. They always go the extra mile and help you make your day special.”
So did things go as she had planned? Sonam recalls, “Honestly, I was a bundle of nerves as the moment kept getting closer! Neil, of course, had done a fabulous job at it last year so the jitters were quite nerve-wracking. And even though I knew he was going to say ‘Yes’, it was a very unique feeling where I was constantly thinking if he would like it or not. However, in the end, everything went ahead perfectly. With this proposal, the aim wasn’t to relive my happy moment. It’s been a tough year for all us to-be-brides as our well-laid plans have scattered due to the crazy times we’re living in. However, we can still relish the company of our loved ones who have been with us regardless of the ups or downs.”
