This couple’s grand island wedding in Maldives will sweep you off your feet with its serene, tropical vibes!
Wedding Planning - Dec 11, 2023
A comprehensively planned union on the pristine shores of Maldives, Samta and Sahil’s wedding was a carefully woven series of stunning events. Planned by WeddingSutra Favorite- Weddingz By Mindz, this wedding made jaws drop and ensured every guest had the time of their lives living the ‘island life’.
Akansh Jain and Himanshu Kothari from Weddingz By Mindz give us an overview of the brief they received from the couple and the array of actions that followed, “This was one of the biggest Indian weddings to be hosted in Maldives. Needless to say, everything had to be just right! Our couple was very clear from the start that they didn’t want their wedding to feel formal. They wanted each guest to feel like they were on vacation.
Once everything was clear on both sides, we started with the recce process. After selecting the venue, layouts were planned for each event and all the items that would have to be shipped to the island for the wedding were identified. Additionally, we also had numerous virtual meetings with the venue to get clarity on their resources and how we would have to contribute to it from our end.”
The wedding celebrations consisted of a warm guest welcome party, a seaside soiree with a touch of Roberto Cavalli’s tropical prints and a Dior-style Poolside brunch. And, last but not the least, The Vacay Wedding. While the seaside soiree flaunted minimalistic tropical elements with neon lights, cabanas and customised bar decor; the Dior-inspired poolside brunch had everyone welcome the couple with flags customised with their initials.
The ‘Vacay Wedding’ flaunted subtle decor where the aesthetics were kept classy and the bride walked the aisle with her parents by her side.
Akansh and Himanshu share, “From a logistics standpoint, this wedding was one of the biggest, toughest and the most challenging. But we took it on our chin and decided to go all out. 600+ guests were flown in with 2 charters and 2 additional flights for the wedding. The team was involved in sending the guests their tickets, visa on arrival forms, and luggage tags to their seat planning on the planes to Male. We had 4 teams of 2 representatives flying with each set of guests. They acted as their ambassadors and their work included helping the guests with separate check-in counters at airports providing them meals before the flight and post landing guiding them to meet our on-ground representative at Male.
On arriving at Male, all guests had to be transferred to the seaplane terminal and the same process of issuing tickets and making them board the plane was carried out. Since a seaplane can only seat 14 passengers at once, it was a long-drawn process. To compensate, we also had a few guests internally transferred via ferries.”
Each event was uniquely designed and no effort was spared to make it memorable as Akansh and Himanshu explain, “The team had to purchase, procure and get custom work done for each décor element from the prints of the overlays to the cushions. The smallest of things like foam boards of the events, the artificial flora and faunas, the binding wires, gums and everything related to décor and production were procured by the team in India and shipped to the Maldives. The team had to be precise with their planning of goods since once the container had left the country refilling wasn’t possible. The wedding stationery was printed and taken from India along with in-room items like, customized props with the couple’s wedding name ‘Sip and Samba’.
The artist selections right from the anchor, DJ and the bands for various events were planned intricately. In terms of décor, the team went through multiple iterations of décor selection with the family to understand what was possible on the island. Sound and Light was planned with a local vendor and the team had done multiple calls and a venue visit as well with them. Choreographers and photographers were also briefed by the team along with caterers. Additionally, we also shipped ingredients and kitchen paraphernalia from India to ensure the guests had an impeccable culinary experience.”
However, the biggest challenge was yet to come. As the wedding festivities came to an end, the planning team also had to ensure that not a single guest missed their flight back home. This also included taking care of their belongings and their respective transfers. Akansh and Himanshu share, “While welcoming the guests was a challenge, their return was a colossal undertaking as we were racing against time! We had to make sure the entire party boarded the 14-seater seaplane to reach the airport on time. Additionally, the transfer of their luggage also had to take place simultaneously! The first seaplane flight took off at six in the morning and finally the transfers ended at three thirty in the afternoon. It was a frenzy of activity as our team was working non-stop under the blazing sun.”
In the end, the team’s hard work paid off as each of the couple’s loved ones reached home safely aboard their respective flights reminiscing about the beautiful moments they spent in Maldives celebrating the couple’s love.
