This wedding in Bangladesh was a heady fusion of cultures, grand themes and impressive wedding favors!
Wedding Planning - Jul 11, 2025
In January 2025, Dhaka hosted a wedding that set a new standard for elegance and cultural fusion. Joanna and Shadab’s celebration, planned by Plush Weddings, was a seamless blend of personal stories, global influences, and local traditions. With Joanna’s international background and Shadab’s Bangladeshi roots, the wedding was designed as a reflection of their shared journey. “From the start, they wanted every moment to feel personal and meaningful,” shares Ruchika Bansal, Co founder of Plush Weddings who brought their vision to life with clarity and care.

The events unfolded across some of Dhaka’s most prominent venues, each space carefully transformed to reflect a distinct mood. The Nikah ceremony was a striking visual, where the couple and the entire setting came together in rich red tones. The Holud (Haldi) saw over two thousand guests dressed in coordinated shades of green, made possible by a thoughtful gesture from the couple who gifted each guest unstitched fabric in advance. “It brought a sense of unity and involvement to the event,” Ruchika notes.

Dining was central to the experience. Guests enjoyed a sit-down dinner featuring classic Bangladeshi dishes served by more than 400 local butlers. A team of chefs was also flown in from Delhi to prepare a menu that included Indian street food and regional favourites, all cooked live on-site. The cocktail evening offered a different flavour, with bartenders from Thailand curating a speakeasy-style experience complete with custom drinks and theatrical presentation.
Fashion played a quiet but powerful role. The couple’s wardrobes were curated with care, with Ruchika accompanying them and their families across cities in India to source textiles and accessories that suited their style. The groom’s mother brought over 400 sarees to be gifted to friends and relatives, each chosen with intent and a sense of heritage.
Guest gifting went beyond the expected. Each hamper was a blend of thoughtful finds, including incense from Thailand, snacks from the family’s bakery in Dhaka, chocolates from around the world, and personalised M&Ms. These details added a warm, familiar touch to an otherwise grand affair.

Behind the scenes, the planning came with its challenges. Cross-border logistics, visa issues, and customs delays all posed hurdles. With key members unable to travel due to diplomatic tensions, the Plush Weddings team restructured quickly. They brought in support from nearby Kolkata and coordinated remotely to ensure smooth execution. “We adapted the plan within days and leaned on our strongest local partnerships,” says Ruchika.
The volume of gifting and wardrobe distribution was another layer that required precision. A dedicated inventory and dispatch system was created to manage sarees, garments, and accessories for extended families. Each venue had a backstage styling zone to ensure timely and organised handovers.
Design consistency was maintained across all events through a clear creative vision. From coordinated attire to floral choices and lighting, every detail tied back to the couple’s story. This approach allowed each function to stand out on its own while still feeling like part of a complete narrative. Among the most memorable moments were the fireworks that marked the end of the Holud, and a high-energy dance evening where guests performed with enthusiasm and ease. These weren’t just planned highlights — they emerged naturally from the mood and the people.
